Description
This is a picture that took a very different turn from what I had intended. Sometimes these things take on a life of their own. I had intended to draw the poetess Sappho, but as the picture progressed, it definitely wanted to move in a different direction. I think I ended up with a competitor of Sappho that history has forgotten and who let me channel her essence, let us call her...any suggestions?I used some GREAT stock from , which is well worth checking out. The picture I referenced is here: [link]

You are an amazing artist. I love reading about world mythology; Native American, Celtic, Greek, Egyptian, Sumerian... they're all wonderful.
Do you take comissions by any chance?

Can you possibly draw Amaterasu, the Japanese sun goddess?

I'm ALWAYS obsessed with ancient Greece! I woul dlove to do an anthology of Greek gods and goddesses....
I'd give you the shawl if I had it, unfortunately it's only 2 dimensional. Wouldn't be very warm.

IΒ΄d love to do an illustrated dictionary of Greek gods and myths!<3 Only it would take a lifetime. YouΒ΄re right about the shawl - luckily I have mine from the Bronze Age.^^

Wow, I love her clothing! And her serene almost 'holier then thou' look. It's really nice!

Such an aesthetic pose and graceful expression, she certainly does look like a Muse. As always, your details blow my mind, I love the beautiful patterns and how her clothes fold.
As for a name, well, having studied Ancient Greece, I remember a couple. How about...Melitta? Cyrene? Myrrhine? Hm, can't recall any more at the moment. But you should name her, she must have a name!

Melitta eh? Okay, let's go with it. She looks like a Melitta. As for the pose and expression, much of the credit must go to the model I used as reference. Thanks for the great comment!

Melitta's one of my favourite ancient Greek names, glad you liked that. It means 'bumble bee', so possibly not the most fitting for a graceful muse-like woman, but I still adore it! And you certainly managed to capture the model's elegance

Well, as I recall the Bee was one of the symbols of the great goddess herself, especially in Minoan Crete. So a muse who gets her inspiration from the goddess could very well be named after one of her favorite symbols. Melitta. Thanks again for the great name.

Alright, I didn't know that about the Bee. Thank you for the interesting info, I love expanding my knowledge about the ancient times And you're welcome again about the name.

She looks beautiful... but why a competitor of Sapho? She looks more like a muse herself!!

Certainly. Maybe a muse that time forgot?
