An entry for the contest going on over at which is centered around a first meeting. I thought the theme was cute, so I decided to donate a plushie prize for first place. But, I wanted to add to their count for entries too, and got a submission together!!

A while ago, I started sketching this page, from when Aurora was a teenager and enrolled in the Shino Academy. As busy as things have been, I wanted to get it finished and submitted in time. I’m pushing the envelope, but it’s still a few days before the deadline.

To go with this picture, I wanted to put this piece from the story that it inspired. Coming from a fic I wrote around three years ago now, here’s from the beginning of Aurora’s story. Hope you enjoy!!

Class A was easy to find, as she assumed it would be. Aurora took a deep breath before passing through the open doorway, unsure of what exactly awaited her there.

A large table was set up in the entryway, topped with their textbook containing a sheet of light orange paper tucked away under the cover. Once she had hers, Aurora slipped into the main room, and began searching the small auditorium for an inconspicuous seat.

The instant she had found the perfect spot, hidden in the seating on the far right side, she sat down and withdrew the brightly hued note inside. Before she perused what was written there, Aurora took a moment to glance around the room at the other people that had already gathered there.

These particular Year Five students seemed to be a little different than the other students she had encountered before. During the last semester, she only had a few classes with other Year Four students, now beginning Year Five classes with her. None of them that she had studied with were very kind, but they hadn’t been as unfair as the younger students she had met were. After her talk with Master Yamamoto earlier that morning, she had been secretly hoping he was correct in his notion of them being older and wiser than the others she was used to, to allow her more of a chance.

So far, no one had noticed her there. That was a great improvement over the last few class she had entered the semester before.

Because no one was blatantly watching her, it was a little easier for her to relax than normal. She continued to enjoy her small triumph for blending in somewhat while she read through the forward her future instructor had provided. As she did so, an unfamiliar sound began to ring upward from down below.

Most younger students Aurora had gone to classes with were fiercely competitive with one another. It was a rarity to see students getting along in any way during lessons, let alone laughing and joking with one another. But, not a great distance away from where she was sitting, a group of teenage boys, roughly her own age, sat doing just that.

Then, she saw him.

In the middle of the gaggle of chuckling guys, each pointing at someone else to indicate the result of whatever joke had been made, sat the most handsome young man Aurora had ever laid eyes on.

Even at the distance she was sitting, the intensity of his green eyes was striking. More compelling still was the smile on his face, one full of the consistency of a soul that was honorable in every action he took. Not a single one of his features went unnoticed, and was almost as quickly memorized.

Aurora had no idea how long she sat there, eyes furtively locked on the enigma of a boy. Only the hush that broke out over the totally assembled class shook her out of her daze. By their reaction, she could tell that the instructor had entered the floor below…
