“But you haven't helped out since the graffiti clean up!” Veronique complained. “This is easy, and it's to impress someone who's come here from far away. Not only do we get paid to help out, Anise, we also have a chance to get in contact with someone else who could give us more exotic herbs.”

“I said no. You can go ahead if you want to, but I'm far too busy, these experiments need to be watched constantly.”

“Those are--”

“Veronique. I said no, I'm not going, I'm going to stay here and do my work, alright?”

“...” The Espurr tilted her head down. “I'm not bringing back dinner this time, you'll have to fend for yourself.” She sighed, walking out the door and heading out of the guild base. Who did that Sliggoo think she was? This errand was supposed to be about teamwork and showing what they could do, and even if Anise had stage fright, she could have at least helped her out back stage getting ready...Though, on second thought, since the other 'mon was covered in goo, that probably wasn't a good idea.

At the rehersals, she found herself rummaging in the costumes for something she could use, and almost didn't notice a little Pichu doing the same, even though they were nearly touching. When she did notice, she moved away a little, not really in the mood to talk...and then that Pachirisu, whatever his name was, called the two of them together, ASSUMING they were together, and assigned them as such.

“Phillioune? Veronique? Do you have something to pitch?” Veronique balked at being paired without her acceptance.

“No. I'm not ready yet. I just got here, sorry~.”

“Hm, alright, then you've got a while to get ready.”

She noted the Pichu beside her looking up at her, and start to write something on a piece of paper. “I'm sorry...Phillioune was it? I won't be able to read that even if you do finish the writing. It seems like we're stuck together though...So do you have an idea for something we could do? Just...shake your head in a yes or no.” What was with all these 'mon that weren't able to talk? She wasn't sure that she could too many more of them. When the 'no' shake came, she sighed.

“Can I touch you?” At that the Pichu jumped backward and shook his head rapidly to indicate a 'no' again, and gave a little spark to indicate why.

“Oh, right, You're a Pichu, you think I'm going to get hurt and you'll get knocked out. Let me see if I can do something about that. It'd only be temporary, since if you've got an overactive ability I'm sure it would overpower this within a couple minutes, but it would be enough to establish a link.” As she spoke, she pulled a small charge stone on a string from a pocket in her cloak, and held it out to the Pichu.

“It shouldn't hurt, since it's a neutral magnetic item instead of what happens when you shock others. We walk around, so we always have one charge or the other, even if it's too small for most to notice.” When the stone was snagged and held in his palm, she held out her hand. “Now, I'm going to touch you, one digit, just to your forehead okay?” There was a slight shake, but Vero was quick in the action, and with the charge stone redirecting the electricity as a part of his body, there was no spark, or pain between them. “Good. Sorry about that...now, give me a moment...surface thoughts are flooding in...There, now I'll show you what I have in mind, and you let me know if you think you can do that.”

Later, as the two of them prepared for the show and Vero set up what served as her costume, she flicked her ears back and forth. There were a lot of mon working behind the scenes here, they'd drastically changed the play's story, and were taking over the stage. As the Pachirisu stepped out to address the crowd, Vero reminded Phil of his part, then cut off the link so that she could concentrate.

The curtain rose into the scene, and the Pichu darted out. The story was being read off by Rowan himself, since the mute Pichu couldn't do his lines himself. The voice of his character was supplied by the Sylveon, Lucifer, whom Veronique had recruited to act as a background character. The night fell on the stage, the weary Pichu laying down as the sun went down, and then darkness began creeping in around the corners. Glowing eyes appeared in the fog, and low voices started a haunting melody as the story finished, and after a moment, Veronique's voice added to the mix (Turn on the music now). Charmed with disarming voice, it seemed to soothe the unease that the background music had set in.

Fear not this night
You will not go astray
Though shadows fall
Still the stars find their way

She started a slow funeral march, her pink drowned with the dark twilight of her cloak. Her eyes kept ever closed, and her head down as she started from stage left, standing directly behind the Pichu, who, as if on cue, started to wake from his sleep and look around, not seeming to notice Veronique, but rather the shadows that crept ever closer.

Awaken from a quiet sleep
Hear the whispering of the wind
Awaken as the silence grows
In a solitude of the night

Darkness spreads through all the land
And your weary eyes open silently
Sunsets have forsaken all
The most far off horizons

Nightmares come when shadows grow
Eyes closed
and heartbeats slow

Fear not this night
You will not go astray
Though shadows fall
Still the stars find their way

The last line came as Veronique shed her cloak of stars, revealing an orange bow and yellow hair clip in it's place, and wings of bright blue that made her glow as she lept into the air, arms wide open as the Disarming voice took a more physical form. It swirled in a yellow and pink mist, chasing away the darkness from the middle of the stage and filling it with light, shimmering with her voice as she went on.

And you can always be strong
Lift your voice with the first light of dawn

Dawn’s just a heartbeat away
Hope’s just a sunrise away

Distant sounds of melodies
Calling through the night to your heart
Auroras, mists, and echoes dance
In the solitude of our life

Pleadings heard in arias
Gently grieving in captive misery
Darkness sings a forlorn song
Yet our hope can still rise up

Nightmares come when shadows roam
Lift your voice, lift your hope

Phil seemed to settle back into sleep as the darkness receded away from the bright mist that was filling the stage, all the 'monsters' leaving in the face of the light.

Fear not this night
You will not go astray
Though shadows fall
Still the stars find their way

And though the night sky’s filled with blackness
Fear not, rise up, call out and take my hand

Fear not this night
You will not go astray
Though shadows fall
(Still the stars find their way)

Fear not this night
You will not go astray
Though shadows fall
(Still the stars find their way)

And you can always be strong
Lift your voice with the first light of dawn

Dawn’s just a heartbeat away
Hope’s just a sunrise away...

As the song ended, Veronique faltered and fell back to the stage floor, landing in a kneel to lessen the impact. The fall had its desired effect, the mist created by her voice and the rest of the dark fog completely dissipated. The curtain closed, and Phil jumped up, emoting his happiness that it went so well as the crowd outside clapped. He was even nice enough to grab her cloak for her, which she tied back on. Everyone who worked off stage or weren't really seen, joined them on the stage as well, and they took a bow.

Meanwhile, while Veronique and the others were getting everything ready for their show, Anise had thought that perhaps...if nothing else, she could watch the show and show her support. Veronique had seemed upset earlier, or at least disappointed. It was difficult to tell with such a calm partner. As she started toward the area that had been declared the festival's center, she noticed a familiar character approaching her.

“Daniel!” She said, a smile creeping on her features.

“Afternoon Anise. Say, I've rarely seen you outside like this, am I to assume you're off to somewhere?” The Kirlia asked.

“I was just...” What was she doing out here? Oh yes, the Festival...but that didn't seem like a good idea anymore, not with Daniel there. “Going to get something to eat, yes, that's it. Would you like to join me?” Well, Vero had said that she would be on her own this time...

“Perhaps yes. I think the cafe down the third would be near empty today, how about taking it as an opportunity to eat a sandwich in peace somewhere else than at your home?” The Kirlia spoke again, as the two of them headed off in the opposite direction of the Festival.

Later, long after the Sliggoo had returned, the door opened. Veronique was returning to the room, a single Star Coin in hand. She didn't bother to look at the Dragon type as she put the coin away, nor as she headed to the bedroom to hang up her cloak, leaving Anise to begin the conversation.

“I'm sorry, Vero, I tried to get down there-”

“Don't.” Vero cut her off. “Just...save it. I don't want to hear another lie. It's just one after another. You told me last time that we were going to be working together. Last time...an errand was posted. All you did was laugh at me...and now you wouldn't even come help me with this when it could have made things better. I was paired with a Pichu instead.”

“A Pichu? Why were you paired up at--”

“Because this festival was to showcase how well we work together, it had to be at least two 'mon.”

“Oh.” Anise muttered, horns drooping. “What did you end up doing?”

“If you'd been there...you would know. I'm tired, I'm going to bed.”

“Okay... Goodnight?”

Veronique sighed, not returning the dismissal, and instead closed the door as she climbed her way up to the bed she called her own, curling up with her journal and starting to go back through the memories.

Hope's just a sunrise away....

This seems unknown and mysterious, I LOVE IT ALREADY!
Beyond the cameo, something I really like about it is that it was designed to perfectly accomodate the song you chose, creating a majestic atmosphere.
Thank you!

You've probably seen the story on tumblr already, but if not, the story's been added to it here too!

I haven't seen the story yet, thanks Sky!
Reading now. Uh... You do know that Phillioune's 7, right?
Besides that, this is a great story, and I feel motivated to make a response!

I remember his age from the mega reference, where I went to grab information for his looks before using the picture on the tumblr...but I suppose that using myself at age 7 isn't a good thing? Heh, whoops. I understood the concept of re-enacting a story for others who hadn't heard it, and had some knowledge of how magnets worked...I was a very special kid. n.n;;

I'm glad you enjoyed it.

I apologise. The reason I mentioned his age was because of something in the story I completely misinterpreted.

First reading that, I thought that Veronique as also 7, which as a huge surprise until it turned out I assumed wrong. 7 and 15 is a significant age gap.

OK, you're pretty clever...

Thanks for letting me know! Too bad Anise missed the performance... Doesn't she know never to miss out on her friends shows? Great story!

Anise hasn't been very active in the Errands as of yet, admittedly. Veronique's been doing a lot of the work herself, and I think it's starting to show.
