These are really amazing! I love the combination of rendered figures and the photomanipulation.

Thank you!
BTW, there was no photomanipulation actually, all were rendered in one pass, 3D models along with HDR environment image (which acts as light source and background at the same time).

Really? No photos? Wowy! I had no idea! That is even more amazing!

There was used special panoramic photo but only during the rendering process; there was no photomanipulation / post-processing in applications like Photoshop, etc.

JFYI, the HDRI panoramic photo was used here as essential part of rendering process - it acts both as backdrop and as light source at the same time (i.e. there was no postwork / layers blending in PS or whatever)

Huh clever Didn't even know you can use a photo as the light source.

Four female beings -> five opinions! Our mathematic teacher asked us once whether anybody knows why a woman tells something other than she's persuaded? "That nobody believes she's thinking something that's wrong"...

what is HDRI and ground you have use?
Interesting that shoe is focus but ground is not...how you will fix it?

pnn32 In reply to cempion [2015-06-13 16:40:40 +0000 UTC]
HDRI is "10-30_Forest_D" from noemotionhdrs.net/hdrother.htm…
Ground.. just a flat surface with 'matte' option on. So it's actually transparent, except for shadows (so we see road from HDRI).
Well, a good question about focusing... probably I should use some real mesh for road, like in fav.me/d7qn6u8

ruhney71 In reply to pnn32 [2015-07-18 23:01:03 +0000 UTC]
Quick solution, you might already know, is to use a gradient from black to transparent and use it as a mask, to copy just the lowest part of the rendered girls on top. Then gently apply blur to have the shoes and lower legs easy in with defocus to match the defocus of the road.
Another tip is to have a close look at the grain of the HDR and try to simulate that on the girls. But also to match up the overall defocus of the HDR with the girls. Pictures are never 100% sharp every where, renders can be. So blending them needs 'downgrading' the render to a level where the photo background is. Even lens artifacts like colorshift can greatly improve the blending and thus the overall photo realistic appearance.
Still, great render and use of HDR.

Thank you for the tips, but it sounds like I should render the 3D part of scene and environment independently? So I'll have two images (background and mesh render result with alpha channel) and then combine them in image editor (I use Paint.NET)?
Because this render output contains both background and mesh render result (only signature was added later as additional layer in image editor).

ruhney71 In reply to pnn32 [2015-07-19 08:45:15 +0000 UTC]
Well, yes and no.
When rendering your objects with a background, using a plane with matting as a floor to catch shadows, your render will have a alpha channel. Or at least, you can set this up in your Kernel (Alpha Channel). When saving your image and editor like Photoshop will recognize this channel. Meaning, you can use this channel to separate your 3D object from the background.
So, you can lift your ladies out of the background, replace the background again with your original background and then do the blur trick like I mentioned before. I do not know if Paint.net handles alpha channel.

pnn32 In reply to ruhney71 [2015-07-19 08:57:10 +0000 UTC]
Well, now it looks perfectly clear. There is no magic at all, just alpha channel + blending technology
Yes, the Paint.Net supports layer blending, alpha channel and masks, even with scripted behavior (so was done in fav.me/d6e6sm2 )

The very short and incomplete answer is: using HDRI environment.
The full answer... well, here are some points:
1. Unbiased render engine, which takes into account every reflected light ray, that is physically precise
2. High-end (15000x7500 pixels HDR panoramic photo) image based environment lighting, so we have very uniform light that coming from all directions, which is very natural
3. Some tricks similar to real-life photography, like fav.me/d8smqo6
4. Some post-processing (exposure adjusting, color balancing, vignetting, bloom/glare effects ,...) on render output
5. May be something other...
