The House of Representatives has passed CISPA by a vote of 248 to 168, with mostly Republicans voting yes and the Democrats voting no.
CISPA can still be stopped in the Senate. If you do not know the names of your Senators, you can get them at www.senate.gov. Call the offices of your two Senators and ask to speak to the legislative assistant who handles internet and privacy issues. Tell that person that you oppose CISPA because it intrudes on Americans' privacy without enhancing internet security and that a better solution must be found. That's all. Nothing more is needed. Remember to thank the person who takes your call for considering your views and passing them on to Senator ______. Now, you're a citizen lobbyist!
The bill could move to a vote in the Senate any time now, so don't delay; do it today!

I agree with this poster.
A win will get that horrid thing the veto treatment.
Democrat all the way.
Democrats for the win.
If we all work together and hard enough we put a complete stop to internet censorship.

Obama has promised a veto if this bill gets to his desk, so no worries.
But this is not a Democrat vs. Republican issue. There are libertarian Republicans who don't like it, and many powerful Democrats support it.

It does not appear that CISPA will get out of the Senate and to Obama's desk at this point in time. I will undoubtedly post something if it passes, and he signs or vetoes it, so visit my page often!

yeah that's true. When this happened before I worried a lot and I could not sleep.
Let's hope that the people signing the petitions will help stop this bill.
I worried some much that I did not sleep at all last night.

You should submit these to groups on deviantART like the libertarian or conservative groups. Anything about limiting government power is something they could get behind, and it'd increase the scope of your audience.

Actually, the House vote was 248 to 168, with mostly Republicans voting yes and the Democrats voting no. It may or may not pass in the Senate because no one has a good majority in there. Obama threatens to veto the bill if it comes to his desk because of the concern it violates the civil liberties.

poasterchild In reply to Haze3P0 [2012-04-28 21:54:32 +0000 UTC]
You're quite correct on all counts. Tired, I guess, and I cited the House vote figures for HR 347, not the House vote on CISPA. Given all the thoroughly awful stuff he's signed, I am quite sure at this point that Obama's need for protective coloration on civil liberties issues means that his veto threat is probably reliable, but remember he also threatened to veto NDAA for the same reason, and then caved at the last minute under pressure. Even more important than Obama's reliability is the need to send a continuing political message to the Congress that "you can introduce and push for as many of these bills as you like, but each time we will rise up, and we will stop them. We are legion, and they should have expected us.
I'll change the figures in my original post to reflect your correction. Thank you!

You're welcome. In my opinion, I think Obama is okay (I don't agree with the HR 347 signing and I'll have to look up the NDAA one you mentioned), just wish he was more willing to reform and fight corporations.

It is section 1031 that has everyone in an uproar because it permits the indefinite detention of American citizens in military custody without charge or trial.
Most of the rest of it is just the usual defense spending authorization stuff, but the civil liberties stuff is truly horrific. The President can declare you a enemy combatant, strip you of your citizenship, and deport (rendition) you to any place they choose where you can be held in military detention until the cows come home.
Read what Pulitzer winner Chris Hedges has to say about this. Just Google "Hedges NDAA" an you will, pardon the expression, shit your shorts.

Oh now I remember that. Another thing I didn't agree with him. He did say he would never use the power during his presidency, and I have yet to hear about it being used.

Imagine it is 12 years from now, that things have gotten much worse, and that Dick Cheney has respawned and captured the Oval Office in the 2024 elections. Now do you see why we are concerned? No President should be given these powers. Please rea Chris Hedges' stuff; he explains the ins and outs much better than I can in this small space.

Try this instead. Sorry. It's an important issue, but I don't think there's a solution of the type you seek. Truman didn't integrate the military until 1947, so, these posters pretty much did reflect the actual social situation at the time. See: [link]

Bro, these posters I use for the base art were done between 1918 and 1947, not a great period in American civil rights history. The only thing I have come up with is this cartoon from the British magazine Puck, and I ain't going there: [link] " border="0" alt="Photobucket" >
If you find something you think is appropriate, send me the link and I'll see if I can work with it. I think, after looking at thousands of these posters, that what you want doesn't exist.
