I am a disabled former underground coal miner from Harlan, County , Kentucky.
While coal is a necessary evil for our present way of life. I am against mountain
top removal as a way to supply coal energy. It has destroyed the beautiful
mountains and vegetation surrounding me here.

It becomes a never ending cycle. The coal soot adds to the climate change so you have to turn on the air conditioner more often...

While I agree that people should control themselves there are place such as where I live that make that rather difficult. An average day here is 110-115 so for most people lack of air conditioning can lead to serious issues.

It's not the electricity, it's the coal that 50% of the U.S. electricity supply is generated from.

Ahh thanks for the clarification. In that case there are lots of options that even homeowners can take their electrical concerns in their own hands. I've seen small wind turbines made out of plastic 50gal drums. Also just going over your house and doing small repairs or upgrades like re-caulking the windows and sealing any cracks or holes. There are more ways and things people could use to save electricity than I can list here. A good resource is instructables.com
