After watching Death Note, which is now definitely on my top 3 favorite animes, I decided to change my style a bit towards a more realistic, death noteish style. So here's the new Blake, and also some more detailed shading styles. hope this helps some people having trouble with this kinds of shading. hope you enjoy ^^Related content

Yep..Its gonna be a pain for a long animation.I remember arguing with an animator that has done professional work like Adult swim cartoons on how I wanted my characters to be fully detailed with complex designs while animating in 2d.He pointed out that as a professional,its best to simplify the design to make ur characters more animation-friendly and faster to animate.It best to start from animating simple designs when u get more experienced,animating more complex things come more easier to u.He said he would rather watch a simple ball bounce that is very fluid and smooth than watch a complex character prance around unrealistically.I guess I had to learn that the hard way.One thing I realized probably take their advice cause they know what is involved.

well yeah I see what you mean by that, and what the guy that told you that meant. but well I like practicing new stuff and shit, well I'll try to learn realistic animation later, as for the moment I'm working on making my characters look as realistic as posible. as all I'm doing now is linearting or shading choreography, I won't need to care as much for achieving natural movement.
here's a frame of something I'm working on [link] mainly to try to animate with a huge amount of detail, and trying to get as realistic characters as I possibly can. I'm guessing if I begin animating with ultra high standards, later when I go to simple style animation it will be way faster and easier to me.

I have a question.... How does shading work ? I'm never able to shade on my own with out using references... Every time I ask people keep telling me to choose a light source... Shading is the only thing that's holding me back.... Poch0010 any advice or tips :/ ?

Try looking at yourself in the mirror in a lighted room and observe how the light falls on u.The direction the light comes from is your light source.So if u are shading a face,the nose for example will cast some shadow on the side of ur face that is away from the light,depending on the position of the light source.

yeah Deathnote is one of the best animes i've ever seen !! i like everything here !! good job !! also watch samurai champloo , it's on my top 3 as well !! and btw what's your top 3 ? naruto, bleach,deathnote?

thanks ^^ hheh no way, I actually don't really like naruto and bleach, my list would probably go 1- death note 2- Orphen 3- One piece, and the closest to those are probably Ano hana, and DBZ XD I've heard of Samurai Champloo, but never really got motivated to watch it heh

oh then I guess I'll give Samurai champloo a look one of these days ^^ and well neither Dragon Ball Z nor Naruto have good storylines but I like better DBZ, I don't really like Naruto, except for some epic parts as Naruto vs sasuke, or the sasuke character itself, I just work on naruto animations, cause it is popular, notice how my naruto pictures have 200 faves while my other unrelated stuff gets a maximum of 30 favs XD but yeah, what do you think about it?

yeah i agree , some people remember naruto when i say anime , if i ask do you watch anime or do you know what's anime ? they answer yeah i watched naruto or pokemon or shaman king ... so annoying .. btw there's only thing i expect from anime naruto is unique animations from suzuki and other good animators ,btw i prefer naruto's first 5 seasons , shippuden is boring (for me) but sure it had some epic episodes but ... bleach is chewing gum and unreal but i like some characters like ulquiorra and grimmjow and ost . DEATHNOTE 4EVER and KUBO is troll! DBZ is awesome

Yes.... Death Note.... Get consumed by the intensiveness, that is Death Note.
When I watched it, I also wanted to match my style with the anime, that is why my favourite manga artist has always been Takeshi Obata.
And you know why.
Other than that, nice work Poch. I like how you incorporated the ever-so slight gradual-looking shading on the 3rd guy.

seee, pero eso es algo qe estoy tratando de incorporar, si aprendo a animar con tanto detalle supongo qe despues va a ser mucho mas facil pasar a estilos mas simples como naruto o esas vergas, pero este estilo mas realista me gusta mas

Wow this is nice. Goes to show how different styles of shading can really change the look of a person and the final result! My favourite one has got to be the one on the far right though, the third tone adds more depth and a realistic touch in my opinion. Keep it up!
