What had happened? As Tom saw her running by and Arthur stopping at the door half dressed he dropped the carrots he was putting in a bag and ran past his brother in a matter of seconds. The boy couldn't believe how fast she could run but he could still catch up. His arms automatically snaked around her waist and held her in a tight embrace. It was hard to see her in pain like that. Her whole body was shaking and he could fell the tears stain his t-shirt. He had a good idea of what had happened. It was his fault for not telling him. She met so much to him; he never wanted her to get hurt by the news. He found it so hard to keep something from her. She had been so honest and nice with him and he had only lied to her in return. Her brother had promised to tell her for months but never seemed to be ready. Slowly pulling himself away from his best friend he told her as softly as he could manage:
" Sit down and I'll go get our stuff"
He sat her down on the sidewalk and ran back to the house.
"Tom is she okay? I'm so sorry I never ..." Arthur asked still in the door frame.
"William come out here! I know you're there! She's not going back home tonight. Could you go get her a set of clothes at your house? Take the white shorts and the pink hoodie. It's the outfit she likes the most. If you stay here just keep it down please! By the way I think she's going to be okay. We're going to the lake and I'll bring her back safe."
"Tom thank you so much for being there. I'll do anything for her. And I know she'll be safe." William answered.
Tom took the basket and ran back out to his best friend. She was still crying when he picked her off the ground and made her stand straight. They walked to the lake and sat down on a picnic table. She barely talked and Tom knew he would probably not get a word out of her till morning. They had sat watching the sun go down and she whispered:
"Thanks Tom ..."
"It's fine Honey." He had whispered back.
She had fallen asleep curled up to him. After watching the stars come out Tom decided he should bring her back inside. He picked her up like she was a child and carried her to his bed. He set her down very carefully so she wouldn't wake. Her tears stained face looked peaceful. Tom climbed in bed beside her and slowly fell asleep. The blond couldn't remember being so content. It felt so right to have her by his side. It felt so pleasant to fell her press against him for comfort. He knew if she left his life he would be lost forever. A world without her would be filled with nothing more than sadness and discontent. He would do anything to keep her from living his life. The boy loved her and that was it.
