"Tell me something... Come on you have to start speaking! You re strong you can do it Eli!"
The baby looked back at Tom with knives in her eyes. She reached to her mom trying to squeeze out of his grip.
"Stop tom... You're just scaring her."
"I'm sorry baby Eli it s just I want to hear your little voice ... Let's go play piano!"
The child lit up like is she was going to the play grown. She started taping tom s arm playing out in her mind what the notes would be.
She was a magic little girl with any kind of music instrument and only 3 years old. Tom had played so much to her when she was born it synced in more than other things like talking. F she wanted something she would play a certain melody and they would understand.
The two sat down on the little bench and her blue haired friend put her on his lap. She put her hands on the piano only reaching two notes with each hand.
From further away Ed was watching.
"You know she's never going to let go of any instrument because of him..." he said in a soft tone to her friend.
"Yeah I know... Tom is like a music dealer! Everybody he introduces to music become obsessed and really good. Maybe you could try teaching her some guitar..."
"Nan I'll leave it to him. Plus his so god at it..."
"When are you going to tell him?"
"What do you mean?"
"You know what I mean!"
"Hrm... I'll go make a sandwich for Elise. "
He left almost running out the room. He took all his time to make the sandwich and slowly walked back to the room. Tom was still playing piano and Eli watch him carefully.
"Hey baby Eli... Do you want to eat?" she reached out her hands trying in vain to grab the plate. Tom turned to look at his flatmate.
"What?! I don't get one?!"
He picked up the child and gave her to Ed scooting over on the bench to leave the boy more space.
"Thanks'..."
"Sorry boys but I need to go... Can you watch her for tonight...? Work just called and I'm working all night..."
"Yeah sure! Hey Elise we're going to have fun together!" tom said.
The little girl was eating and paid almost no attention to the blue haired boy.
"Bye bye my love!" Her mother said before she stepped out the door.

The two boys eat supper and played with the small child for a couple of hours before she started drifting to sleep. Ed saw her state, picked her up and carried her to bed. Tom followed his friend and sang to the child a lullaby until she was fast asleep and both boys walked out of the room.
"Do you think you'll have one when you grow up?" Ed asked his blue haired friend.
"What do you mean? Have what?"
"A kid... like a baby of your own. You know like a family?"
"I imagine if I find someone to be with... you?"
"Yeah I love children... and really I've already found someone... it's just I don't think they like me back."
"Really ...?"Tom was sad but mostly angry and tried to control it but failed. The question came out more as a reproach than anything. He hate that his Ed could love other people, that he could be someone else's Ed. "Than you should tell them so they know! You'll never know if they like you back our not until you do."
"I love you... I've loved you for a long time now and I wanted to tell you but I was just so scared..."
"Are you seriously practicing on me?! You saw I was mad at when you told me! Are you really that thick?! You're such a..."
Tom stopped talking because he felt lips on his own, warm perfect lips, Ed's lips.
"I love you..."Ed breathed between kisses.
"Me too!"
