You know Princess Pedi, right? Here's a new OC from her world, which we've decided to call the Kingdom of Steppingstone. And by "we," I mean that I got a lot of help from ! Thanks, bud!

Meet Lavern, the Crown Prince of Steppingstone. He's a wyvern (a type of dragon with two legs and two wings), but can transform into a human and something in between (which we'll call his Dragon-Blood form). He may appear as a charming prince at first glance, but looks can be deceiving. It seems that his power as a prince has gone to his head. Lavern is obnoxious, greedy, and abrasive, and treats others quite rudely. He also loves treasures and will try to pilfer as much of Steppingstone's riches as he can. Some say he even sleeps on all his loot.

Once upon a time, before Pedi became a princess, Lavern was the wyvern that threatened Steppingstone. His fire breath torched buildings and his mighty claws, razor-sharp fangs, and powerful tail scared away the townspeople - though for some reason, he never actually tried to hurt the humans he was terrorizing, bullying, and chasing all around the kingdom. The only thing that could keep him at bay was if the villagers gave him their riches. Since nobody else in Steppingstone was available to be elected ruler, the townspeople had no choice but to elect him due to his mighty influence. Lavern didn't know what else he could do to intimidate the kingdom or grab more loot (outside of his usual tactics), so he decided to actively govern Steppingstone.

Solis de Fusse stepped in upon learning this. In order for Lavern to better interact with the townspeople, Solis used her magic to turn him into a human. However, since Lavern used to threaten Steppingstone as a wyvern (and since she's a Soleceress), Solis punished him by making his new human feet ungodly ticklish! Lavern secretly likes being tickled, but wants to be seen as powerful in the public eye; if anything, the thing he hates is people learning of his ticklishness and ESPECIALLY spreading word of this knowledge. As a result, and because he still retains a shapeshifting ability to some extent, he uses a partial transformation, which he calls his "Dragon-Blood form," to assert his dominance, demonstrate his combat prowess, and better interact with the townsfolk (he still has large, ticklish size 27 digitigrade feet in Dragon-Blood form, though). While Lavern is still feared by some, most of his people consider him more of a barely tolerable bully than a serious threat now that he is human. As a result, despite taking the treasures of the kingdom, Lavern is constantly bogged down by criticism from the townsfolk, making his job surprisingly stressful.

Lavern may seem like a jerk (and, well, he is), but this is all a front. Despite being a wyvern, he was born to human parents (it's a long story) and was thus shunned and mistreated a lot as a child. He deliberately alienates those around him to keep them at a safe distance from his repressed anger and prevent them from learning of how stressful his career truly is. Not everyone is unsympathetic to him, though. There are those who have discovered how hurt he is inside and are helping him through his personal issues, including the outgoing and kind Pedi. Deep down, Lavern deeply cares about those he's attached to. When he hoards his kingdom's treasure, he hoards its people. In other words, he looks out for the community. He may push others away by being a jerk, but he does it because he doesn't want people to know just how stressed he is trying to keep things in order.

In spite of his attitude problems, Lavern does have a sense of honor at the end of the day, and he's at least sensible enough not to flaunt his draconic abilities unless he truly has to. That said, it's worth noting that when he REALLY gets serious - such as when the few people he's attached to come to harm - the raging monster within him will swiftly resurface, and the next thing you know, he'll have completely turned back into the dragon he used to be. Thankfully, those occasions are as rare as they are spectacular, which is just as well, since he can't care less about how much collateral damage he inflicts as long as he's succeeded in rectifying the threat of whoever DARED to mess with his friends - uh, his "worthy company". Still, Lavern regards the action of transforming fully as an absolute last resort, and merely threatening to do so is a cause for alarm on behalf of just about everyone in his immediate vicinity.

Again, a special thanks to for coming up with Lavern's name, backstory, description edits (including the final paragraph), and wyvern design, as well as the flames he drew for an alternate version of this bio! Lavern was a lot of fun to work on, and I'm glad I could work on him with the Dragon Master!

So much for Prince Charming, huh? And considering his personal issues, it wouldn't be a surprise if the inevitable cry of "Why, Vern?" happened around him at least once.

I'm glad to have worked on this handsome lad with you! As I've implied on Discord chat, the pic is fantastic and the character concept and personality exquisite - considering that all your previous OCs have been sweet as pie (sometimes literally!), I suppose it'd only be fair to toss in someone more mean-spirited to add some variety, in terms of character roles andΒ potential ticklees.

Thank you for accepting my contributions to his design, and I look forward to seeing more of him in your future works!
