Thanks. It was taken in Currituck, North Carolina. I wonder how long it has been there.

After a little research I would say those are 1951 or 52 Gilbarco gas pumps, but the building could be older.

Wow. This makes me feel wistful, but it is also so beautiful. I love the look of the old wood and peeling paint of the background building.

Very nice. You even took oppressive and made it pretty. I hope they never remove those old pumps. I hope they don't let the place just crumble into death.

North Carolina's Outer Banks area (actually, this was taken in Currituck) is full of places like this. I think they will remain - at least I hope so.

I love this. It looks like you did some awesome processing on this to make it look old, but I bet it really looked like this.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Poetrymann In reply to meplost [2011-07-10 01:51:13 +0000 UTC]

It is very old indeed. I punched the saturation and backlighting on it...along with the contrast to pop the dark outline.

A job well done! I don't think I can edit very well. It makes all the difference in the world.

North Carolina is full of places like that. Or, at least, with the same sort of feeling and vintage effect. Very nice photo!!

Poetrymann In reply to SpicyBasil [2011-07-10 01:47:17 +0000 UTC]

You are correct in that, love. The place is full of wonderfully run down old places...some of them might even be haunted.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SpicyBasil In reply to Poetrymann [2011-07-11 04:01:24 +0000 UTC]

I do not doubt that they are haunted. Well, maybe not haunted, but occupied. The word haunt gives it a malicious vibe. It could just be a lingering taste of spirits not yet fulfilled.

Hah! Those were the days, whoa. These are SO old it's incredibadible *laughs*
There's this show I watch every once in a while with a guy who restores old stuff
like this, then sells them for more to customers. Quite interesting.

Nice shot...great character! The gray weathering on the building contrasts nicely with the red streaks on the pumps.

*hmmm* I think I bought gas there once.
