Saying: "At least they're reading." when a kid reads Twilight is like saying: "At least they're eating." when an anorexic eats shit.It's true, but shit is still shit.
Now don't get me wrong. I don't MIND Twilight. It's by no means very good, but I don't think it's quite as terrible as most people think. My BIG issue comes when kids who read it think it's the absolute best piece of literature ever because they've never really read anything else. So when people say "Well at least they're reading" I tend to get more than a little peeved. Because a mediocre (at best) book is still just a mediocre book, and letting kids think otherwise because "at least they're reading SOMETHING" is like letting an anorexic kid think shit is a king's feast because "at least they're eating SOMETHING."
It's just something I was thinking about at work yesterday.
It's not a great analogy, BUT AT LEAST I MADE ONE. 
Oh, also, I have nothing against anorexics. It's a serious disease, and if you think you know someone who is anorexic or are yourself an anorexic, please seek help for them/yourself.

Definitely, lol. And when it really does get people to read other things, then YES PLEASE. But when they only read that and think it's the best thing since sliced bread.......I fear for the future.
