Saying: "At least they're reading." when a kid reads Twilight is like saying: "At least they're eating." when an anorexic eats shit.It's true, but shit is still shit.
Now don't get me wrong. I don't MIND Twilight. It's by no means very good, but I don't think it's quite as terrible as most people think. My BIG issue comes when kids who read it think it's the absolute best piece of literature ever because they've never really read anything else. So when people say "Well at least they're reading" I tend to get more than a little peeved. Because a mediocre (at best) book is still just a mediocre book, and letting kids think otherwise because "at least they're reading SOMETHING" is like letting an anorexic kid think shit is a king's feast because "at least they're eating SOMETHING."
It's just something I was thinking about at work yesterday.
It's not a great analogy, BUT AT LEAST I MADE ONE. 
Oh, also, I have nothing against anorexics. It's a serious disease, and if you think you know someone who is anorexic or are yourself an anorexic, please seek help for them/yourself.

Twilight's alright but I don't think it should be the only series you read either. It's a good idea to read a variety of books cause reading is good for you and can expose you to different styles and genres.

Honestly, I kinda feel the same about Harry Potter, but at least Rowling showed more complexity in her relationship (i.e. stalking=/=love) Those BK commercials get me the most. Yeah, Edward has had a hundred years to learn how to love and one of his ideas is to stalk an immature high school girl and watch her sleep.

i don't mind Twilight either. i just think people are making it too big a deal. and if you don't think about it at all it can be a decent book. i mean, not worth reading again, but it wasn't a /complete/ waste of time.

I love reading. If I ever touched one of those books though, I have no doubt that I wold drop everything and never read again. I think it'd be mainly because of how the publishing industry could let Twilight through the filters.

Twilight killed my interest in reading. And I mean in the brutal 36 stab wounds to the chest kinda way. I REFUSE to read it! That book needs to be ripped apart and burned

Yeah, its not amazing writing by any means. I do like it, but these little twihard fans have a lot to learn about what really GOOD literature is. Yes, its a good story, yes, the characters are pretty cool, but its not up there with the big dogs of literature.
