Description Keep in mind that I doodled this while I was reading the Let the right one in novel and had yet to see the movie, so I didn't go for a specific likeness with the actress who plays Eli... who was a VERY good casting choice anyway (seriously, practically the whole cast was). I just loved the whole Rubik's cube thing anyway. Perhaps because I had a Rubik's cube in the 80's, too :-D

Watercolor and biro pen on moleskine.

Looks like a very elegant (perhaps slightly older--despite the fact that vampires don't age) version of Eli.
Fantastic work!!

Thank you Well this is based off the book description before I saw the movie (which stuck really close anyway), so it's not really meant to be a portrait of the actress.

It's deifnitely one of the best I've read in the lasy few years! I have other two novels by the same author but still haven't gotten around to read them, sadly.

I don't remember if I've commented on this one already, but this is very beautiful. The watercolors you used added a nice soft touch to your work and they didn't all blend in and look messy--which is hard at least for me to prevent. Great work!

Pojypojy In reply to EREX94 [2011-06-24 17:15:36 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! I have to say that the Moleskine paper, albeit very thin, reacts surprisingly well to watercolor, that definitely helped.

i'm so excited to find this movie somewhere and watch it! seems like a sweet moment in the film.

just wondering, did you use a watercolour moleskine, or did you use the sketchbook one or a plain pages one? because i have the sketchbook moleskine and am worried to use watercolour on it because the paper is quite smooth...

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Pojypojy In reply to JeannieC [2010-09-18 16:59:10 +0000 UTC]

It's a regular moleskine; the paper is quite thin and it gets wavy, but it's actually very resilient. The water won't bleed through the other side - I even used undiluted ecolines on it and it still doesn't stain the back of the page. Of course, it doesn't give the same texture of a watercolor paper - it's cool for light washes like the ones I used in this picture, but for serious watercoloring I'd suggest getting the appropriate sketchbook (moleskine or not, I got mine on sale because I think they're usually a taaaad bit overpriced. Canson has good watercolor sketchbooks that are cheaper, for instance)

never heard of the book or movie, but this pic is very good. the colors have been applied so that they almost look like they were slapped on, but not in a messy way. it's...like...almost antique-y...? i don't really know. it's difficult to describe. but everything is excellent, including the subtle background.

Thank you! After all, IIRC, in the book Lindqvist foes on describing Eli as almost porcelain doll-like, so I imagined her as probably a bit more graceful looking than she was in the film (still loved the casting though).

The movie was a beautifully directed masterpiece will unfortunately receive an American remake, and it will be like Twilight (bet your socks on it). However, what has already been made must be appreciated, just like this drawing. Kudos.

Nope, it's getting too large of a following in America for it to be remade.

Just saw the film on the 14th. Your conceptualization of Eli from only the novel is extraordinary. I have yet to read the novel, but it's being shipped as I type this. Just wanted to let you know that it's a striking concept of Eli, beautiful work.
