Dogtanian is the only character on there that I'm not familiar with. I really like the line art and love the coloring especially on Kissyfur and Eleroo.

I'm not familiar with Oswald the rabbit, but I know all the others! I remember having action figures of the Wuzzles , and how many times I've watched Dogtanian and Teddy Ruxpin (along with many other cartoons) I don't know!

Wasn't Teddy Ruxpin a DiC cartoon as well?

Regarding to the artwork, I think it's wonderful, especially with the way you drew Kissyfur ^^

Keep up with the good work

Oswald the Lucky Rabbit was created by Walt Disney on the Alice Comedies' series in 1927, when he worked under Universal Studios, but then his distributor, Margaret Winkler's husband, Charles Mintz (also a distributor) asked Walt Disney for a lower budget of the cartoon, Walt Disney refused, leave the studio and create Mickey Mouse when on the way back to California. However, even though Charles Mintz took Oswald from Disney and set his own studio, Universal head unhappy with him, sacked him, owned the right of Oswald (again), and hired Walter Lantz to do the rest of Oswald's cartoons from 1929 'til 1943...Sorry for my long talking

Actually Teddy Ruxpin is produced by DiC Entertainment, and animated by Alchemy II, Inc. in 1986.

Anyway, thank Q for watching

Sadly, I'm not familiar with any of these characters, but I think you did a good job drawing them. I have to say that the older 80's and 90's cartoons were by far some of the best that I've ever seen. The poses look great, and so do the coloring and the shading.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Pokelai In reply to Weatherartist [2005-10-13 09:31:50 +0000 UTC]

I almost don't regonize them 'til I have history of animation class, I agree that classical cartoons from 80's and 90's are far better (that's why we called "classical"), compare with the modern cartoons.

A few notes I like to point out...

While you're correct on Oswald, his copyrights to Disney are expired though. The design you've used for your drawing looks more like the way Oswald would appear in the Walter Lantz cartoons of the early 1930s, when Universal got the rights to do the character. Currently there's been some odd licenseing of the Oswald figure in Japan for a few arcade items I've read months ago at the Cartoon Brew blog.

Dogtanian & The Three Muskehounds was a Japanese-Spanish co-production from 1983. The Spanish firm though you don't give them the partial copyright for is BRB Internacional, S.A. Amusingly the series that BRB would distribute in other countries makes no mention of Nippon Animation's involvement whatsoever. Found it interesting that it was rather anime-like due to the animation used. Another BRB-Nippon production was an adaptation of a Jules Verne novel with anthro figures portraying the roles of the characters in the series, "Around the World with Willy Fog".

Both Dogtanian and Willy Fog had their Engilsh versions recorded in the US, by the same team that would also produce Robotech, but the dubs were never aired on American television besides a few VHS releases that were once available. DVDs are currently available of both shows in Europe. More infomation on BRB and their properties can be found here...

Kissyfur used to be a cartoon I watched a lot. It was created by Phil Mendez. I believe the show is currently owned by NBC. Here's a little article on Mendez in case you'd like to read it!

Here's a page with some of his recent artwork...
