And another one down, about 235074896 millions left to go.(In my math 235074896 million gifts = about 7)
I've been wanting to draw Aerynne for soooo long but never got around to do it.
I actually had another sketch, similar to this, but it was set horizontally. I ended up getting mad at it because the paper didn't handle the colored pencils very well, got paper from my father's, drew the sketch all over again but this time vertically.
I really felt like drawing a huge sky at the time. I thought it'd look pretty to have Aerynne looking rather small comparing to the massive background area.
I love the outcome, it took me an eternity to color that sky, each color section has around 5 layers of colored pencil.
I could have blended the colors better but I wanted them to look kind of separated.
Those butterflies were a joy to draw

Thank you! It means a lot that people like my backgrounds, I sometimes get the feeling that I'm getting too repetitive so I try hard to change that ^^

Backgrounds are really hard to do, I cheat and use photoshop so I can't complain if you're going all the way. Sometimes repetitive can be good, you can play with the same thing, get different styles with it, even play with textures. Like on trees. Maybe place it over a textured surface then color? That would make it look barky and stuff. Lol, I just thought of that even though you don't have a tree in this picture. Just an idea.

If I might offer a tad of CC, her head looks a bit small for her body--not only length-wise but it's pretty skinny, so to speak. Hm. I hope you don't mind my tossing it out there, dear. If so I shall hush!

Oh of course not hun! I love CC, I wouldn't have gotten this far if it weren't for the awesome people that actually take time to think about my works and help me improve.
And you're right, it does look a bit small, but not as small in person. I guess the reflections of the sun light on her head made it look smaller on the scan than on the paper. But it is a bit small.

Though I read that since the platypus stores its fat in its tail for when food supply is low, a plump tail=healthy, happy platypus. It's not an obvious show of expression and emotion, but it'd be a nice thing to incorporate, you know? Like body language, in a way, since platypuses only have a moderate range of poses. XD

I rather like my platypuses, too XD And aye, the tail thing is neat. I mean, platypuses' mouths aren't conveniently visible, so there's no way I can do something like a frown or a grin, and I sort of do eyebrows--ridges, really... so anything I can use, I will. ^_^
