Incorrect. Her portrayal in Metroid: Other M is part of how she's 'supposed' to be because that's the portrayal chosen by the development team. Doesn't matter how you want her to be. Nintendo's character, they'll do what they like with her. And as with most people who try to complain about that game, you possess a critical lack of understanding of the Metroid universe, and much of what was going on in that installment.
First of all Samus has had PTSD when seeing Ridley before. It happened in the manga that serves as a prequel to Classic/Zero Mission. And since she HAD no characterization in any other game before Other M (or minimal at best) you cannot say with confidence that she hasn't had PTSD moments when facing him in other instances. Since her first meeting with him though she's generally gotten better at pushing past her trauma and fighting in spite of being absolutely terrified. Other M is an exception due to two things; Ridley was supposed to have been destroyed for good when Zebes blew up so she seems to be seeing his ghost somehow (that's her first reaction), and also she's suffering from severe depression throughout Other M due to the destruction of her home (she grew up on Zebes) and the death of the Baby Metroid, which she feels guilty for.
Second, I have to address the fact that people only zero in on two particular scenes, the one with Ridley and the whole thing about her not turning on the Varia Suit until given permission granted. The former I just explained, and has been explained before if people would bother to look. The latter is a gameplay mechanic that wasn't really addressed in the story, and wasn't supposed to. If an explanation is really necessary than it's probably due to being severely depressed at the time, and depression tends to not make you think straight. Yet people conveniently forget moments of emotion in other games, and moments of awesomeness from Samus in Other M.
For example; Adam, a high and mighty GF general, admitted that Samus was stronger than him. There's the fact that even depressed she was the most competent fighter on the station. How about when she pwned Ridley once she'd gotten her focus back? What about beating a Queen Metroid AGAIN? It's enough for anyone to claim they've killed a Queen Metroid once. The one of the Bottle Ship was the second one she's killed. What about being able to hold off M's strongest minions and take out M herself with relative ease? Or there was her successfully wrestling with Teenage Ridley. Then she came back and killed Phantoon again; once again showing skills far and beyond those of Space Pirates or GF Soldiers.
Other M portrays her as considerably more than a "pussy scared girl", and it's showing that she's vulnerable and human, not a heartless bounty hunter. The fact is there's simply more to her than meets the eye and she's not a female Boba Fett (not that any games have ever indicated such a personality to begin with).

Well, the most emotional moment in metroidΒ lore for me is when samus connects with the metroid at the end of super metroid. Its such an emotional moment. It tells me everything i need to know about samus. Her maternal instinct, her passion, her pain, her determination...and her vengeance. It may not be the most scripted story, but it honestly touched me the most out of all of them. Sometimes less is more.
I always felt samus was more Sigourney Weaver's Ripely (ala aliens) then boba fett.

None of that is actually there. That's purely you filling in the gaps. But I'm not going to complain too much because it's in support of what I said, and ultimately the direction Other M chose to take her. Fact is Samus isn't a cold-hearted badass. She's brave, and strong, but not emotionally invincible or without vulnerabilities. She had a space dragon nearly kill her when she was 3, and saw the same dragon murder her mom, then she was raised by aliens and ended up a bizarre hybrid (she's infused with Chozo blood, making her a human-chozo hybrid) when she returned to human society, so there's no way she'd fit in. And during the rise of Mother Brain her entire home and surrogate family were destroyed as well. Her life has been fraught with trauma, so to expect it to have had no effect on her whatsoever, or to expect her to not have moments of weakness is simply ridiculous.

I never took a stance for, or against what you said.
I have nothing against other M.
I was simply implying that samus did have human characteristics prior to her voice acting scenes in other M.
BTW: I suffered from PTSD.Β BTW ! While i reacted differently to things then samus...(more angry, violent ect) i can still relate. I do think her reactions should have been fleshed out in a different manner. But thats personal preference.

BTW: A great story doesn't have to literally spell out everything to you, in order for you to take something personalΒ from it. Its obvious that they wanted you to fell some emotion from the metroids death at the end of the SNES game, and to want to take revenge on mother brain. That much, was actually determined by the intro to motherM no less.
Regardless, A good story teller adds depth, and layers to things to be interpreted differently, by different people.

Never said it did, but story and character development are two different things. Other M's intro isn't really relevant to the ending of Super Metroid, from a design standpoint. That Other M shows Samus reacting to the Baby's death is an aspect of that game, not the one being referenced. Also I'd appreciate it if you didn't lecture me on 'good storytelling', or storytelling in general, as I do actually write stories and have been refining that method for about 10 years now, at the least.

While I can understand the idea of PTSD, there is another disorder that is hinted during the same manga that created the PTSD belief. While I cannot fully explain what the theory was, the Tv tropes article "Mother, may i see Metroid: Other m" would explain that, and the other reasons on why many people dislike Other M.

I was referring to what you mentioned earlier about "filling the gaps". Pretty much the intro to otherM correlates with my understating to the ending of the Super Metorid.

Ah, Ridley.Β The one thing I hated about Metroid Other M the most was how Sakamoto handled Samus' archnemesis, Ridley.Β I was really, really hoping that since MoM was going to be so story heavy then they would finally show that Ridley was a cunning calculating villain who likes engaging in mind-games.Β Instead he shows up snarling like an beast.Β Sigh...
