I love love love Stan and Kyle both, some amazing characters- both hilarious as comedy characters but also with surprising depth and complexity.
Kyle's a sick kid though- I mean, sick sick, like, extremely diabetic, as well as cursed with a poor immune system, a strict diet, and an incredibly rare blood type. He had a kidney transplant at age 8- those don't last forever. After a decade, nearly half of them stop working. Considering there was only one known person who could have been a donor the last time, the odds of replacing it again successfully are really low. That's not even counting infection or relapse of a dozen things he's contracted over the years that could easily kill him.
Stan's always been a lot closer to Kyle than Kyle has been to Stan. Stan's had issues with depression and alcoholism and isolation- I don't think he would take Kyle's death so well.
