As Naruto grew up the similarities between them grew alarming.Kakashi watched from his careful distance as Naruto's superior, seeing his face lengthen, his cheekbones become more prominent as he lost his baby fat. Naruto came back from training with Jiraiya, his hair all grown out and falling down over his forehead protector, and Kakashi felt something twist in his heart.
He watched the light fade from Naruto's eyes with every year Sasuke was not brought home, and thought how similar they were to his eyes as each year of the war dragged on, and they lost Rin, too.
One evening, he found Naruto sitting against the tree in the training grounds from which the Hokage monument could be seen, where his own sensei would sit, hour after hour, staring at the faces of his forbears.
He came that evening in the shower, biting his lip so he didn't have to think about which name he'd tried to call.

I love pairing one of the students with Kakashi, and also love pairing Kakashi with Minato. Yaassss....

(Well, it still kind of freaks me out as an actual pairing, but as this one-sided ambiguous thing it's really very interesting and oddly poignant.)

I love doing onesided ambigous things. And I hate shipping Kakashi with either Naruto or Sasuke. I read it, of course, but I'm thinking GET OFF THE MINORS DIRTY MAN. I think my view of Kakashi has been permenantly skewed after getting molested by a cosplayer at a con.
