"So like, are those horns or ears?" Starburst marches right up to Apricot , who had been harmlessly studying a mushroom.

"P...pardon?" The hybrid stallion squeaks. He had wandered from his herd that day to discover some new plants. He also had no idea he was being watched! Oh no she's pretty too! Apricot puts on an anxious smile, backing away slightly. "T...the....m...my head?"

"Nooo, I'm asking about your nostrils." Starburst rolls her eyes good-naturedly. "Yes your head! The pointy things, what are they."

He's not used to being demanded for something. In an act of self-preservation he scurries behind the nearest tree. Only then does he feel safe enough to answer. "Y...yes! T...they're h...horns!" Internally he kicks himself for losing control of his verbal function. If only others didn't make him a nervous wreck!

Starburst easily finds his hiding spot. Already she feels kinda bad for freaking him out so much. "Hey that's cool! I bet you do all kinds of strong warrior things with them. They look perfect for goring."

Apricot gasps in horror at the thought. "G...goodness n...no!" He scoots away from her to get behind another tree. "They're f...far too s...sensitive for t...that."

"Oh. A real shame." Starburst stays where she is. This is the first real horse she's talked to in days so she doesn't want him to run away, no matter how geeky he seems to be. She decides to give him some time to calm down.

The orange stallion relaxes a bit when she stops pressuring him. His heart rate dies down and his tongue stops fluttering about in his mouth. Good maybe he can talk now? He decides to break the silence.
"They're really only good for back-scratching and tree-rubbing. Sorry. If you need a monster slayer you'll need to ask elsewhere."

He genuinely looks downhearted at the prospect of not being helpful. Starburst snorts with a smile. "Pfft there are no monsters here! I was just curious is all. I'm not going to hurt you or anything. Come out would ya?"

Apricot isn't too sure about this but obeys anyway.

"The only monster that needs slaying is the crazy one in your mind!" Starburst trots right over to him and bumps shoulders. "Hi, I'm Starburst. You can call me Star if you want. I usually don't bite!"

Being so close to such a pretty horse makes Apricot's head spin. "H...hi, I'm A...Apricot. Y...you c...can call m...me A...Apricot."

"Okay A-Apricot! What can you tell me about that mushroom you were staring at? Is it edible or what?" Starburst grins at how flustered he is.

As soon as the question leaves her lips it's like a lightbulb switched in his mind. His eyes light up as he looks over at it. Stress forgotten, Apricot returns to his best self. "It most definitely is not edible! Unless you want to face the most agonizing death known to horse-kind. In fact..."

Starburst holds back a giggle as he prattles on about the different attributes of such a tiny plant. It's cute in an almost sad way. Good to know that if they ever cross paths again all she has to do is ask about wildlife to get his brain back on track!

Small story for my entry ^.^
Apricot will eventually get over his fear once he warms up to Starburst more. The stuttering is not uncommon sadly, but that should stop too eventually! Poor boy doesn't have many friends and he's never met someone so strong-willed before. I feel like she'd be able to encourage him to become more social and confident in himself!
