The devastating effect of machine guns and other fast firing weapons convinced the Salaian high command on the usefulness of a lightweight machine gun that could be carried and operated by a single infantryman. Such weapon should be relatively resistant to dust and mud, easily disassembled and cleaned and should be able to be used from fixed positions and vehicles.

And thus the Zlem-T1 light machine gun was born, a sturdy and reliable weapon that served the Salaian Empire for over 7 decades and keeps going strong. While it’s relatively mechanically simple, it is slow and expensive to produce. The ever growing threat of a war involving the world’s most powerful nations has spurred the need for anew, cheaper weapon that could be produced in the numbers needed to compensate for the attrition that such conflict would produce.

Mechanics

Zlem-T1 is a short recoil light machine gun. The bolt and inertial mass reciprocate by means of an articulated arm connected to a coil spring.

The body of the weapon can be easily opened like a door. This characteristic makes cleaning and general maintenance really easy. The downside is that this system requires extensive precision machining, which makes it both expensive and slow to produce. Also, the barrel cannot be changed quickly in combat.
