Description

A young Armor Worm breaches the surface in a display of power. Thirty feet long and foul in temperament, this brute could be considered the ankylosaur of the artic seas. They prefer the shallows (100-300 feet deep) and are exclusively herbivorous. During the winters they enter a state of very reduced activity and bury themselves in the seafloor. For an algae grazer, they are unusually aggressive, and adult males will viciously defend their feeding grounds from rivals, all the while displaying to prospective mates with complex chemical and visual displays. Their aggression extends to other species too, and even somewhat peaceful Cthulutherids may be found dead on the seafloor with massive wounds in their stomachs from the Armor Worm’s bladed “snout”. Though they grow slowly and receive limited parental care, a healthy adult Armor Worm has literally no predators. Their ridiculous aggression, surprising speed, and thick armor of interlocking plates and jagged spines mean even the most vicious predators avoid them, and the big open water hunters than could, in theory, overpower them, avoid the shallows and thus never cross paths.
