  Apes.
  Carnivorous, alien apes.
  If we could translate their guttural language of wheezes, clicks, and grunts into human words, it would best be represented as a creole language of crappy French and very crappy cajun-esque English.

  Atrox Sapients are blind (they do, however, have a rudimentary ability to differentiate between light and darkness) and navigate by smell, touch, and sound. Their complex sonar exceeds that of even deep-diving Earth whales. They also have incredible thermoreceptors that allow them to utilize fire as well as any human, despite being unable to see it. Color is as maddeningly incomprehensible of a concept to them as not sitting in the same spot for three weeks straight is to pacman frogs.
  Roughly the size of a gorilla and possessing similar strength alongside incredible dexterity, they can kill and dismember small to mid-sized prey with ease. Unfortunately, that prey is often fellow Atrox Sapients, "de otha kinda meatflesh", as they would so elegantly put it. Violent, cannibalistic, and burdened by a harsh world where creatures of their size are dwarfed next to fifty-ton megaherbivores and ten-ton apex predators, their societies are limited to small, closely-knit (albeit quarrelsome) family groups. There are two varieties: the fatter, stockier inhabitants of the far north, who may be identified by the presence of keratinous "radiator plates" along their backs and their leaner, more chimp-like ancestors to the south, who lack the aforementioned plates. It is worth noting that when anonymously presented with a plush toy of Shrek from the popular film series, they began worshipping it as the image of a god.
