Description
Hi everybody! I'm sorry I haven't responded to comments, I'll get on that in the morning! This calls for an explanation:
Few people know this about me, but I am a religious person (in a good way, I promise!!!), and I ran into this totally out-of-context accusation someone made of the Bible. Naturally, when something precious to someone is made fun of, people feel the need to fight back, so this is my response to that comment.
It really makes my blood boil when people misrepresent Christianity, because it makes even the good, well-meaning Christians look bad. I made this post to clear the air and hopefully make sense of anyone's confusions. I will probably make more of these in the future as well.
If anyone sees any grammar, punctuation, hard-to-understand parts, let me know and I'll fix it (sometimes I think too fast and I forget to put things in my work, so I hope I didn't miss something!). This is meant to go in another website in the near future, so I want it to be as good as I can make it. ^^
ALSOOOO~
I've been studying the Bible more often lately, and if anyone has a question they want to ask, feel free to send me a note. I love answering Bible-related questions!

I think lots of people have considered this possibility but haven't been able to accept it because of seemingly conflicting ideas in the bible. Sometimes we just need to step back and look at things from a logical perspective and everything will fit into place. ^^

I remember the book of Genesis saying, "... And God said let us make man in our image..." etc. and then it said God made Adam. To me that strongly suggests God made MORE people than just Adam and Eve, especially when you consider where Cain's wife came from, who was said to have come from way far away.

Well, when you think about it, the idea that more humans could've been created doesn't quite add up with the rest of the Bible. The apostle Paul says in Acts17:26, "And he [God] has made from one blood every nation of men who dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their preappointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings..." That means that Paul himself acknowledges Adam as the "beginning" of mankind. Also, Deuteronomy 32:8 says God "separated the sons of Adam..." If there were more created men, the Bible wouldn't have left out such an important detail like that.

You're quite welcome!!! Β
On the book idea I'm not saying publish a novel, but e-publishing I.e. self publishing has come a long way. Β So let's say you don't want to call it a book, you can call it a booklet, pamphlet, or a guide for new Christians. Β I think it would do well as bible school study aid. Β Just food for thought. Β I'd love to discuss it further with you!!!
Blessings,
Erik

awesome : )
love this : )
question:
when Adam and Eve sent Cain away
he married a woman outside of eden
do you think that there were *at the time*
other humans *NOT created special by God?
*this is just my theory*
please dont be upset kk?
like MAYBE
there WERE "humans" / "people" that evolved from the same ancestor as apes
that were created by God *as everything is* but not SET APART like the Jews were
so
as of the great flood
all other "humans" were lost
and thus we are all decedents of Noah?
as only HIS family survived?
π: 0 β©: 1
PoppyCorn99 In reply to ZIM402 [2013-08-15 21:24:45 +0000 UTC]
I see your point, and actually I had a similar theory a while back! But I hate to tell you that evolution played no part in the Bible. Having humans evolve would suggest that animals can reach the same level of what God created, on their own. Without God. That's not Biblical!
Example: God made man out of the dust of the ground, oh, and some other people appeared in the bushes later too. XD
1) And besides, the idea of humans evolving from apes supposedly took several million years, remember? The Bible suggests the earth is only about 6000-7000 years old.
2) What I think you may have missed is that Adam and Eve were NOT Jews. Abraham (then Abram) was blessed by God (Genesis 12:2-3), and as a result, his descendents were blessed too, and THAT is what started the Jewish religion, which was WAAY after Adam and Eve, more than ten generations later!
3) Actually, we are all descendents of Adam AND Noah. Noah was obviously a descendent of Adam, no? The Bible only mentions the genealogy related to Jesus Christ, and if Adam and his children were mentioned in the genealogy along with Noah and his children, that means that Jesus is related to Adam, along with us. ^^ (Luke 3:23-38 lists the genealogy of Jesus, backwards, from Jesus to Adam.)
4) Regarding Cain's wife: It's true he found a wife after God punished him for killing Abel (Cain went to live in the land of Nod, which means "wandering". Since he found a wife, this would mean that by the time this happened there was already a decent amount of people around the area (again, refer to my post above). You can see that Cain actually founded a city there and named it after his son, Enoch! (Genesis 4:16-18)
I am in no way upset!!! It's great to ask questions and discuss together like the brothers and sisters we are!

awesome thank you : )
as far as evolution taking millions of years
and the Bible suggesting the earth is only 6000 - 7000 years old
i believe that the Bible is God-breathed *yes?
and so when God says he created XYZ in 1 day
that could have been a million years right?
*1 day to God is like a million years
and a million years is like a day* right?
i am in no way saying OUR method of keeping track of time
is any more accurate *every culture has a different calender
and with a different year 0
*and carbon dating is inaccurate as well
what i am suggesting is that
i believe God created the world in 1 God day
1 day to God could be a million years to us
*or like with Moses* maybe that million years to us
was only LIKE one day to God
*does that make sense?
*again just a theory
what do you think?

PoppyCorn99 In reply to ZIM402 [2013-08-15 22:29:41 +0000 UTC]
Actually, there are two verses that mention what you are talking about: 2 Peter 3:8Β says, "But beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day." and Psalm 90:4, "For a thousand years in Your sight are like yesterday when it is past, and like a watch in the night."
The story of creation cannot represent six thousand/million years, and here's why:
1) First of all, if the creation days were millions of years, how would the plants get their energy? Think about it, God only created the sun on the fourth day! I don't think a plant can live a million years, and if the plants died after all that time, the soil would become dry and cracked, unable to sustain anything! And if it took God that much longer to create Eve to accompany Adam, he would be dead, because Adam only lived to be 930, not a million! Also, a million years would be longer than the time it took for Noah to appear in the picture. When you read the Biblical chronology, it is clear that Adam died before the "Noah and the Ark" incident, so the days just don't add up when you change the days to thousands or millions of years. Also, the Bible says God rested on the Seventh day, and it symbolized taking the seventh day off to celebrate creation and spend time with God. The Seventh day Sabbath also is in the Ten Commandments. So, we have to rest for seven million years?
2)THERE IS a Bible verse that reveals that when we are talking about Bible PROPHECY, each day represents a literal year (Ezekiel 4:6), but it is ONLY for Bible prophecy; any other thing, days are days and years are years.
3) The verses I mentioned above about the thousand, not million years, are not talking about Bible prophecy and are not literal, it is a form of poetry, saying that God sees time differently than us. God is eternal, so one earthly day or a thousand years are so little to Him that it's almost the same thing, yet He still cares enough not only to care for us, but the birds as well! (Matthew 6:26) They do not mean anything literal about the days of creation.

hmk
i will think on that
i believe that God can create plants that do not need the sun
*plants deep underwater that just need nutrients
and maybe he brought those up
*1 million years for plants to start
2 million years for animals
*using the same starting point, not millions of years later
but maybe
my point is
i believe God can do anything
i believe if he wanted to POOF plants in a day he can
i also believe the earth is older than a few thousand years
and that God has his own calender
*our calender is biased off the sun right?
if there was no sun yet, what does God call a day?
1 cycle of the entire universe?
ah well
thank you again : )

PoppyCorn99 In reply to ZIM402 [2013-08-16 03:02:21 +0000 UTC]
Well, yeah He could have made the universe in millions of years, but what purpose would it serve to do in in millions of years when He could just do it in six days? Besides, the Bible said He spoke everything into existence (except mankind)(Genesis 1:3-24) If God can speak things into existence, it doesn't make sense that it would take millions of years for it to be fulfilled.
Are you thinking about this because of the rock and fossil datings? Think about this:
We know that God spoke everything into existence (except for man), but when God made Adam, Adam wasn't a baby; he was a full-grown man, but was technically "newborn". So we would see him as an adult but actually only existed for a short while. Trees were spoken into existence, but the Bible doesn't say they were saplings; they probably looked like full-grown, hundred year old trees even though they only existed for a few days. Same thing with the rocks and soil we analyze today, they may seem ancient, but they were already created matured.
Our time goes by the sun, but the sun goes by God. He chose when "evening and morning" would be (Genesis 1:3-20) and that's the way it's been ever since because if Him.
But really, this is not a topic which is essential to our salvation. If two people disagree about a minor detail until the days are done, we'll forget the whole point of the Bible, and that's to bring us back to God. I hope you stay on God's road along with anyone else who reads this.
God bless!
