Description I am writing a term paper for my English linguistics course about English as a lingua franca on DeviantArt (especially looking at non-native speakers of English). Are users aware that they are using English in a special way? Is there negative judgement by native speakers of English? Do users dislike the English dominance on DeviantArt?

A lingua franca is used when people with different mother tongues want to communicate and it quite often English is used. In this case, the goal is not to speak perfect English, but to adapt the language so that the other person knows what is meant.
I myself am a deviant for four years, having uploaded a few texts and these, naturally, in English. When I wrote my texts, I was trying my hardest to reach native speaker level and I noticed that many other deviants do the same, even asking others to correct their texts. It is also very rare to see a text written in another language than English.

Here is the link to a survey that I created: www.survio.com/survey/d/J5N8K3…

So I would be really interested in hearing your opinion on this topic.

Are you aware that English has a special function on DeviantArt, especially looking at communication?
Have you encountered negative judgement by having not used the ‘correct’ way of English?
Would you prefer using your mother tongue more?

Please let me know if you have anything to say about this topic!! You can write a comment or write me a note if you don’t want everyone to see your opinion! I would be sooooo thankful for any help I can get!!!

I am aware that English is usually the most used language on larger platforms such as DA. I did get negative feedback regarding my English from time to time, mostly I was judged for spelling mistakes comments I made. Other than that, there was no negative feedback. I also got a lot of positive feedback, especially when I mentioned that I was insecure when it came to spelling or grammar. I do not mind using mostly English to communicate with members of DA, since I enjoy reading, writing and speaking it. But I would appreciate to read more stories in my mother tongue too. It would be nice if other languages were used more, because I enjoy writing stories in my native language and naturally would be happy to have a larger audience.

dA is an English site but I 've seen groups in French, German or even Romanian. Generally speaking if one wants to have maximum contact then the person must be able to speak English fluently. This goes for their art too.
I'm French but always submitted my fan fiction in English in order to ensure as much views and appreciation as possible.

I believe that English dominates the world, not just DA, because of the British Empire.  I do not particularly care if someone's English is not 100% correct. I have never corrected anyone's comments even if they have asked.  If someone has apologized for incorrect English, I have assured them that they are fine, and the important thing is to be understood.

English definetley dominates the world!! But for me it is hard to investiagte the whole world and DA is a place I'm being creative and feeling at home kind of. That's why I wanted to see how it is on DA.
Thank you very much for your comment!! I really appreciate it, because I really Need more data!! You really helped me a lot!
