I saw Cloverfield recently; are those things that drop off the monster its young, or are they parasites that hitched a ride?

Supposedly, they're parasites (at least according to Wiki). But we'll never really know, unless you solve the hints placed around the web. PReilly, nice stuff, looks really cool. Were you inspired by Cloverfield?

when we first see them dropping off the news reporter says they appear to be parasites

plus in the director's cut it says the monster's a baby so i doubt it had reproduced at that age
