DUDE. This is so sick!Β
I could go on and on of how EPIC this is... You are a true artist my friend, you are soo goooood!
Β The arms, the shiny horns, the head, how it is really "gangly" its back is bulky, the few hairs it has around its body... this design is amazing!
Thank you again for sharing...Β

All of your pictures are great, but I see you have a special knack for creating vile and repulsive creatures. Keep up the good work!

Wow this design is simply amazing. Using insect to design a alien or monster is aways very good idea. I think that H.R.Giger uses a lot of insect qualities to create his alien creatures. Truly inspiring work.
If you have some spare time I was wondering if you can give me some tips on ether Photoshop or Painter. I would be ever grateful.

how do you approach these types of characters?

Most of the time I'll get inspiration from everyday things (In this case insects). But it doesn't have to be confined to just animals. Look around and sometimes you'll be abler to find objects with unique shapes textures, etc.
Sometimes that's all that's needed to think up a character.

Yeah same here, well what I actually meant was when you paint it do you start with a quick gestural line to start off or do you do sillhouette work?? OHHH have you ever tried to use phototextures in your work, Ive tried it and it works really well most of the time.

Nice. Do you use know of any tutorials that can help with getting that effect? (Maybe for photoshop if a newer version of painter is required)

Thanks. I'll just have to figure it out with my crappy Corel Painter essentials package that came with my Intuos tablet. That or get better at photoshop. lol

Which effect specifically are you refering to?
I usually use different techniques depending on what I want the illustration to look like or ich program I use. When using PS I tend to sketch out an pencil illustration first and use several layers for coloring etc,. In Painter I basically jump right into a painting by blocking in a dark silhouette and then refine the shapes by carving the edges adding highlights later. I also rarely use more than 1 or 2 layers when working in Painter.
Here are a couple of sites which have some tutorials -
