Description
Again with the steampunk thing. A bit of the old "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea".Our explorer investigates the depths of the sea in search of a sunken vessel rumored to hold a fortune in treasure.
Legend has it that the vessel is guarded by an unkown beast.....But who believes in legends anyway, right?
EDIT -
Been getting a lot of feedback in terms of similarities to the video game "Bioshock"
Just to point out that this character is based on the old diving suits worn during the turn of the century.
Thes vintage diving suits were around long before Bioshock.
Take a look -

Obviously Bioshock was inspired by these dive suits.

Yeah I can see the Bioshock influence here, but I think you really presented this increibly well. I love how you made the diver look powerful in this shot, the way he's lumbering forward, striding fth and pushing the sea out of the way The lighting is very dramatic and the tenticles add a sense of danger. Now, you're right, this is MUCH closer to 20,000 Leagues, but hey, you know modern attention spans.

I really, really like this. The tentacles swooping up from the back are a fantastic touch. And the lights coming out of the helmet into the water is really nice too. I would hang up a print of this or even just a 5x7 postcard. Really nice. Faved!

it really surprised me how many people thought the "Big Daddy" designs were completely original. I'm like, "it's just a grunting ogre in a diving suit..."

Beautiful work man. I love vintage diving suits. I just wish there were more movies (well done ones I might add) about underwater cities and such.

like the determined stance of the diver and the fearless awareness of the lurking danger, and the fact that the posture is also because of the weight of the suit and the tentacles are 'testing the waters' to gauge the 'enemy'... anyways I am not going to blabber anymore... just a great piece of art... absolutely love it

any-who.
Wicked cool!
Can't help but think of 20,000 leagues under the sea now that you mentioned it. The giant squid or octopus arms behind him scare the hell out of me though. I think that is my next largest phobia to invisible wires.

I am must be alone in hating the term "steampunk". I absolutely dislike the term. I nkw it's your term but it says and means absolutely nothing to me.

I disagree steampunk has a very clear meaning to me and there is an article on Wikipedia explaining this [link]
Of course it isn't a perfect definition, but to me it represents a romantic view of technology from a retro perspective. (I think stuff like Waterworld and even Fallout 3 uses a lot of steampunk elements.)

It's an ugly word. I personally hate it but the world uses it. So I am in a minority. In my heart I know the term sucks. I am working on a replacement word. I alone will probably be the only one who will use it. I'll let you know when I am ready to unveil it. Rage against the pop culture machine!

Well to each their own. I mean I guess when I think about it, what does "punk" have to do with the genre? I don't really know. But it doesn't really bother me.
I am curious as to why you hate the term, if you just think part of it doesn't fit, or if it doesn't represent the stuff you appreciate, or something else.

I guess overly artificial words bother me. "Steampunk" is one. The "punk" part is especially bothersome. Because it implies toughness, violence. I don't see the Victorian era as that, at all! Good exchange of ideas. I love your artwork. You are very talented. Words change. Art remains.

Yeah good discussion. I'm pretty sure there's a good number of people out there who don't the term either.
