so, you DID do some concept for the movie? or did somebody just jack these and post them up as possible Cloverfield monster designs?

No, just my fan art of the film. Somehow they ended up on other boards as "official art" from the film.

Well, it is my FAN ART of the cloverfield monster (based on descriptions given by people who saw the film last week)...Somehow they ended up on different websites as "official" art from the film.

They kinda remind me of those critters in Dark Crystal.

These creatures really seem to escape the ordinary. I have trouble with that because I always feel bound to keep things within complete functionality which you seem to accomplish but still keeping very much an outlandish design. Well done!

I saw this posted somewhere else. It was a blog about the movie Cloverfield. Someone posted this as a sketch of the monster. Was that you?

haha, oh shit, i'm kind of glad these have been posted up here now. All of those cloverfield threads sowing the 'real monster' had me worried- not that these monsters arent cool of course- the idea of being spoilt was more of a letdown.
I say that, america gets it a week before we do so i'm getting spoilt either way

I like the concept of the legs, they really make an interesting looking creature, especially since most all animals existing today have large back legs rather than front ones.

Did you originate the bottom one or is it a copy of the supposed cloverfield concept imagery?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
PReilly In reply to SPAR [2008-01-16 07:44:34 +0000 UTC]
The concept imagery that's been going around is my artwork. However, it was based on the descriptions given by those who saw a sneak preview of the film last week.
Apparently the real creature looks like a hairless monkey, with two airsacks on the side of its head and reverse elbows on it's front limbs
👍: 0 ⏩: 2
SPAR In reply to PReilly [2008-01-16 14:48:55 +0000 UTC]
I think the "inverted elbows" described by the [pre]viewer are closer to the bottom concept you've done. I think they mistook the elbows for actual wrists, with a elongated palm-limb hybrid... like the front leg of a horse as it takes a step... or the arms of a praying mantis.
But who knows, they might all be bullshitting, lol!
Either way I love your work!
