Description A while back, a couple friends of mine asked me how I tightened my Jeannie wig, so I posted these pics on my LJ. Then a bit later, Arda Wigs held a tutorial contest, so I decided to make the pics all fancy lookin' into one big pic. Posting in case it helps anyone here~

When you first tried it on to pinch off where you were going to cut it did you tighen it at all with the elastic straps? Or will using those for the initial trying on mess up the measurement being pinched? That makes sense right? Haha this is a fantastic tutorial btw and I'm getting really excited to start styling my Jeannie!

I didn't use them since the part you're cutting off is where the straps clip on to, so I didn't bother.

Thanks, good luck on your wig!

In one of the last photos, I can see your ear on the side... but even after taking it in, the wig covers my ears almost totally! Because the Jeannie has a skin cap and wefts all around, I don't know how to modify it! Did you do anything extra for the sides?

Did you ever get this sorted out? I have the same problem with the ear tabs, but I found a tutorial: fav.me/d4y00ur

I haven't tried it yet, but it looks promising...

No, everything I did is right here, sorry.

I have a quick question about this wig actually. It says it comes with a clip to go over the existing ponytail, so does that mean the wig is already styled in a ponytail AND goes with one of Arda's ponytail clips? I would really like to know.
I was basically looking at getting a long wig (like Ewoyn) and a clip because I am going to do a World of Warcraft cosplay where the character has a ponytail, but since the graphics are limited/they have preset hair styles, I was going to make a little fuller and unique (since in artwork it looks different then in game). I bought an up style wig from Arda already, a Jasmine...And let's just say I had so much trouble with it I am a little be wary of getting another one lol.

Yes- it's a wig in a short-ish ponytail, plus a clip on. In the bottom photos here- the two on the right that have the braid in it? That's the wig by itself, and the picture on the left is with the clip put on.

Okay, thank you so much. This saves me buying a ponytail clip if it comes with one already.

SkullsAndStripes [2013-04-08 02:39:24 +0000 UTC]

I'm a little confused about the steps after the undoing of the stitches and making small cuts. Where exactly do you cut and what part? Just the cap? the wefts as well? Do you sew it up after?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

PrettyKitty In reply to SkullsAndStripes [2013-04-08 04:38:57 +0000 UTC]

The basted stitches are to make sure your wig will fit after it's cut. You can see where I drew with a marker where I wanted the wig cap to be. Cut through the wig- That means the cap, the netting, and the wefts (but small cuts to avoid cutting hair) NOT RIGHT ON THE LINE, because, like with sewing, you need seam allowance, and that line you drew is the actual line to sew (or glue) shut.

You could probably get away with stitching the wig without cutting it, but then you'd have a bigger back to the wig.

Thank you so much, you made it so much clearer with that explanation! Now wish me luck as I do this for the first time!

SilentPolaris [2012-05-18 05:21:52 +0000 UTC]

I just got my Jeannie wig the other day, but the wig cap is too small. It seems like it is bunched up from the ponytail in it. And my head is average size, I have another Arda wig that fits just fine. Any advice? Thanks

PrettyKitty In reply to SilentPolaris [2012-05-18 05:29:13 +0000 UTC]

I guess take the ponytail out and put it back up while wearing the wig? I think that's what I would do if I had that issue.

SilentPolaris In reply to PrettyKitty [2012-05-18 05:33:39 +0000 UTC]

Malindachan [2012-03-25 09:26:46 +0000 UTC]

Thank you so much for this tutorial. I was able to do the same thing to tighten one of the over-sized Malinda wigs from Arda. Though, I had to take mine in a lot more in the back and towards the top (I'm thinking it's because the Malinda doesn't have a ponytail to help tighten the wig cap, or because my head is just small)

I need to do this to my Jeannie wig, but I'm way too nervous that I'm going to mess it up. ;____;

PrettyKitty In reply to Jessie-kun [2012-03-17 00:04:35 +0000 UTC]

I was too, so that's why measuring before cutting is key. You can always leave more than you think you'll need- it's easy to keep taking away if needed.

Thank you for the tutorial! I'm curious, where did you get the wefts at the end?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

PrettyKitty In reply to firecloak [2012-02-03 05:29:02 +0000 UTC]

No prob! They were snagged from another wig, there's a big second piece to this wig so it was from hair used to make that.

I want to do a cosplay with ponytail, so I think this can be useful. All the ponytail wigs work like this?

Thanks for all ^^
