I cut them out of an actual paper bag, and then once they were folded, I coated them with a layer of Mod Podge.

What type of paint did you use? A friend and I have those exact same figurines and attempted painting them, and it didn't really work lol

Just cheap acrylic paint. The first layer always looks terrible, but just let it dry and keep painting, and eventually you'll get a smoother coat.
