Description
Hey, look what I found! ^__^ Was paging through my Sherlock Holmes book, looking at all the highlights, notes, and clippings I had added to it back in my major Sherlockian days, when I ran across this picture serving as a bookmark in "The Empty House". I had totally forgotten that I had drawn it. Despite it's errors, I still like it a lot. *nods*Edit: As of Oct. 18, 2008, I have come to realise that this image is actually a copy of part of an illustration in the Children's Illustrated "Hound of the Baskervilles". It's been about six years since I drew this and had forgotten that I even had a source image. I found it again, though, and, while the colour image is very nice, there are points about this one that I still like better.
Medium: Pencil

Oh, beautiful! I love the heavy shadows, and the softness of the pencil. What kind of pencil did you use, by the way? Oh, and I also love his high, sharp cheekbones. Wow. I'm glad you found it again, because it's gorgeous!

Thank you very much! ^_^
I don't remember which kind of pencil I used, but my guess would be a regular 0.5 mechanical or else a regular 2B school pencil. Most likely the former, though, b/c I almost never use the latter.

Who me? Heh heh. That would be nice, but I seriously doubt it. *nods*
Love your signature. ^__^

I've never read or have known much about Holmes except what others seem to parady it ^^ Like in Star Trek and the Great Mouse Detective lol that's about as far as much "knowledge" goes on him. I like the picture though, even if you had a reference.

*pulls inner Sherlockian's chain* No, you will not do the "talk to the hand" routine again. >_<;;;
Yes, apparently, last time I met someone with that little knowledge of the Master, I did that. I do not remember this, but she does very well. It was her first impression of me and for a long time, she thought I was stuck up. Guess I deserved that. lol.
Well, despite your knowledge, or lack thereof, I'm glad you like the image. ^__^ And there's nothing wrong with the Great Mouse Detective. Quite an endearing story, if you ask me. *nods* Besides, Holmes and Watson are in that movie, too. Well...their shadows are. lol!

Empty House is my favorite case. Because HE'S BACK!!!! And because Watson faints ^^.
I think it's a good picture of him. Though the nose seems a little odd, with the bump in the middle.

Lol. Yes, Watson fainting is worth it all. ^__^'' My favourite would be...wow...very hard to pick! I liked "Yellow Face" a lot b/c I caught his error long before he did. On the other hand, b/c I knew he was making a mistake, it was a little frustrating to read b/c I couldn't make the story go where it should have. Heh. As for his nose in this image, that's b/c there are several places where he's described as having a hawk nose or a hooked nose and that was my interpretation at the time. Since then, I seen other interpretations that I almost like better. ...Almost... I think it could stand to be a bit less severe, but I still always envision a bump. *nods*

Woot, Sherlock! The master, indeed. ^__^ You hardly ever see artwork of him anymore.

No, you don't, sadly. Though, there are several nice ones of him on DA. *nods*

I'll agree with Vertiglow. The image just seems to shout Holmes. I can't particularly tell which detail in the image gives away the identity of the character, but the way it's all put together certainly tells you who it is. ... Then again, it may be partly because we all know of your fandom. *hides*

Ah, but Vertiglow does not, so your last option cannot apply. (Or has she been stalking me more than I realised? ) Personally, I think it's the hat and the pipe. Thanks to Basil Rathbone, if you put those two together, you can take out the man and it still screams Sherlock Holmes. *nods* His nose might have some influence, too, though, and the general feel of his attire. These are, after all, what the movies try to mimic--even if they fail. ^_^'

Know what's awesome about this?
I didn't have to read your description or the copyright to know who it was.
And aside from that - I've always loved your pencil drawings; they're so dramatic and the contrasting values are great!

Yeah! Mission accomplished.
Glad you like it. Thanks for the analysis, too. ^__^ Contrast is important to me. Almost as important as details. *nods* And drama is always good. lol.
