Description
I recently bought Jain Zar and the Howling Banshees box, so I had to take a very brief break from commission work and try a Howling Banshees colour scheme.
The last time that I worked on the Howling Banshees was 2006 and the Citadel Colours range was quite different, so I wanted to try new colours, but also keep my staple for Eldar: no metal.
If I can, I want to make a Howling Banshees Through the Yars project, which should be easy enough since there are just four ranges. I'll see what I can do.
The base is made from Silver Grey Milliput.
Citadel Colours used:
Armour: Wraithbone, Contrast Medium, Skeleton Horde, Pallid Wych Flesh, White Scar.
Mane: Khorne Red, Nuln Oil, Mephiston Red, Evil Sunz Scarlet, Wild Rider Red, Fire Dragon Bright.
Loincloth: Lupercal Green, Coelia Greenshade, Scaly Green, Sybarite Green, Kabalite Green, Gauss Blaster Green.
Laspistol, basket hilt and gem mounts: Rakarth Flesh, Kommando Khaki, Graveyard Earth, Screaming Skull.
Blade: Sons of Horus Green, Lupercal Green, Abaddon Black, Deepkin Flesh, White scar.
Power node: Temple Guard Blue, Baharroth Blue, Deepkin Flesh, White Scar.
Lenses: Abaddon Black, Khorne Red, Mephiston Red, Evil Sunz Scarlet, Wild Rider Red, Fire Dragon Bright, White Scar.
Grey gems: Abaddon Black, Dark Reaper, Thunderhawk Blue, Fenrisian Grey, Blue Horror, White Scar.
Red gems: Abaddon Black, Khorne Red, Evil Sunz Scarlet, Wild Rider Red, White Scar.
Holster and pouch: Rhinox Hide, Agrax Earthshade, Gorthor Brown, Baneblade Brown, Karak Stone.
Cables: Abaddon Black, Eshin Grey, Warpfiend Grey, Deepkin Flesh.
Grilles: Rhinox Hide, Wraithbone, Skeleton Horde.
Base: Khemri Brown (Foundation), Agrax Earthshade, Karak Stone, Charadon Granite (Foundation), Skavenblight Dinge, Stormvermin Fur, Denheb Stone (Foundation), Pallid Wych Flesh, Dryad Bark.

Huh. I had never noticed how differnet the Shuriken Pistols of the old Banshees were. And what is the point of that holster?
Anywway, the paintjob is superb. Though, how come you decided to paint the armor and the cloth the same color?

Well, back then the standard weapons of the Eldar were laspistols and lasgun and the only Aspects that had shuriken weapons were Avengers and Scorpions. Guardians had access to shuriken weapons too, but they were optional. That changed for good with the 3rd Edition Codex.
Because actually there's no cloth involved in the Eldar armour.

Love these classic miniatures! I think I have every Howling banshee miniature GW has ever released with the sole exception of the new plastic models.

Me too. Eldar were my first 40K love in the 1990s and I'm still very fond of the miniatures of that era.
The plastic ones are really good. The poses are a bit samey, but the quality is there. I will try my best to paint one miniature from each range to show how the design changed over the years.

The kit I want, even though I don't play Eldar. They're just too cool. And Jain Zar, compared to the original model, is far and above an improvement.

They are very, very good. Not much different from the previous metal range, but more crisp and more dynamic.
Jain Zar was great back when was released. Especially taking into account that, like all the other Phoenix Lords, it was supposed to be a regular Exarch. The new one is just excellent. I can't find a better word.
