okay

do the generic-ass coloring and shading

but shading colors have to, like, be a color from a different hue ((ex: instead of using dark blue to shade blue i either use somewhat dark pink or purple, and set the shading layer on multiply))

AND after merging the colors and lines i use the handy dandy overlay setting in a different layer, and you can go wild, add any color you want ((like make squiggles and mess around)) and blur those colors

if it ends up looking too bright then fix it with filters or lower the opacity on the overlay layer
