Description I was thinking about objectification of the female form, especially in science fiction and graphic novels, seeing as pretty much 99% of female action heroes/villains who claim to be "empowered" are still strutting about in tight clothes and pretty much only exist to serve male fantasy.

I realise I am sounding like a militant feminist... but it annoys me sometimes!!! - so I thought I'd flip it on it's head and juxtapose the objectified and erotic with something disturbing, so big mutanty mutantness.

However now I'm thinking I've kinda failed, because she is still kinda sexy.... no but at the same time she is disgusting. She is both, now I feel perverse.... okay I take it that means it worked after all!!

Went for a much more basic colour scheme, kind of like this one a bit. As always, constructive criticism is always welcomed!!!

Also I was unsure whether this qualified as Mature content, but the site's description says nudity: and there isn't really nudity... a) it's a cartoon b) she doesn't have any genitalia or nipples really... It's about as nude as those tight superhero costumes are... right?

don't worry. if you sound like a militant feminist, then that makes me a femi-nazi.=/

but I agree with you. "women's empowerment" my ASS.=/
we're nothing but decorations to men.=/...at least...girls considered "beautiful" by today's standards...which is thin.=/...

I'm a big fan of the sexy/disturbing dichotomy, and you've pulled it off well here.

If you want a tip at how to portray sexy yet not objectifying I recomend studying movie posters with male protagonists, it especially shows if there is a woman in the image as well, how a simple change in pose and attitude does it all. Most of the time if you imagine the men doing the poses of the women it will just look silly, but the way the women change when you put them into the same attitude as the men is really interesting. It speaks volumes about how feminity has been linked to weakness.

And allso, don't be afraid to be a militant feminist, I am, and it workes wonders for the skin.

I like the colours in this and very much like the idea of what you wanted to portray as I am also often annoyed by the female objectification. However if you want to bring a change in that, it would be more effective to simply do the same thing to a male figure as they always do with the female or portray a female figure in a truly empowering way (not just phocusing on how she could *not* be sexy, but avoiding to portray her as an object). Afterall men can be sexy without being objectified and so do women though many have difficulty visualizing that...but there have been women before us who have proven how to be respected like a man (think of Joan of Arc, Hatshepsut,..)

Just my 2 cents.

What fantastic input It's really appreciated!
The problem with portraying someone's power without objectification is that the very nature of a visual medium like art makes an object of it's subject... I think I need to find a way of representing power in an abstract way... thanks so much for your comment!

well thanks, glad you appreciate it

Yeah, but I think in the case of portraying women, is that she is usually objectified by displaying her body as a sexobject, as if she is nothing more than her body...allthough a woman's body may also represent her unique female powers like giving birth, I think it's better to avoid depicting her in a naked or semi-naked form as it is easily associated with those sexy pics that refer to her as merely a sexobject.
I think as artists we easily tend to portray female figures like that, without thinking about it because we are all used to those images ourselves, but it's good to deliberatly change that and think why that's the case.

Militant feminism? Not so much. I like the idea, however. Comics, graphic novels, etc. are filled with heroines in skin-tight costumes, are always beautiful, and are pretty much just objects of male fantasy. It's unfortunate, but that kind of stuff sells.

I like her huge, malformed/monsterous arm. Although the res tof her is still somewhat attractive, I think the addition of that mutant limb makes her much more appealing, as a character.
