Description Since I try to always have a hero and a villain from each represented franchise, it should come as no surprise to see Donkey Kong's arch-nemesis making the rounds.
I originally wanted him to appear under the guise of Kaptain K. Rool so that I could make use of his rather versatile blunderbuss, then I realised that he always appears as the King now, and since Lucas is able to use almost none of his own attacks then I could just give him the damn gun anyway.
I also decided to add a bit of flair with his collar from that baseball game, but drew the line at the loin cloth.

Kannonball: A simple attack wherein a large metal ball is fired from the blunderbuss. Maybe it explodes or disappears after a certain distance? Maybe it's occasionally spiked or a barrel? Maybe it sometimes backfires? All possibilities.
Krown Toss: I didn't want to use this one but since it's the first attack he ever exhibited it's got a pretty good chance of inclusion. As the crown rolls along the ground it can hit multiple times, unlike the Kannonball which would be one solid strike.
Flying Krock: In DKC2 K. Rool shoots flames out of his gun to jet across the ground, so it only makes sense that this same concept can be applied vertically.
King Krusha: Not my first idea for this move, but it overlapped with somebody else so I changed it to this. A powerful but very close range move. Perhaps reminiscent of the Koopa Claw/Wario's Chomp wherein it might clamp down on a foe and allow you to damage them repeatedly.
Kleever: Quite a lot of these moves were difficult to think up. Most of K. Rool's actual attacks are quite derivative so maybe Nintendo can be more imaginative than me. This attack works similarly to Link's Triforce Slash, but since Kleever is sentient he is able to hack away at the enemy while K. Rool is free to carry on fighting. To compensate Kleever's barrage would probably not be as powerful, or might not have as much knockback when complete.

King K. Rool is by fat my most-wanted Smash character of all time, and it would really be amazing to see him get in. Unfortunately after how little DK content there was in Smash 4 despite the revival of his main series with both Returns and Tropical Freeze, I get the feeling that Sakurai doesn't care about Donkey Kong Country in the slightest.Β 

The crown (or should I say "krown") toss is a most. It may seem a little basic, but I'd say you could make it unique from Link's boomerang in several ways. Like, K. Rool's crown could only be thrown horizontally, or more importantly, the pointy end of the crown has a sweetspot that deals more damage than the blunt end. The blunderbuss is a must too; I reckon simply tapping the button would shoot a regular one, while charging would produce a spiked one that sticks in the ground after landing, a bit like the Unira item. While I definitely agree that the blunderbuss' flamethrower ability should be implemented in his moveset, I don't quite agree with it being his recovery. I think he should have the copter pack from DKC3; that way he'd have a special move from all three original DKC games. King Krusha is awfully generic though. Pretty sure K. Rool never bites to attack in any of his appearances anyway. I'd definitely change this one. Maybe his ground soundwave from DK64? Final Smash is certainly an interesting idea with using Kleever, but if I were to do that I would use it in a bit more of a different way rather than asΒ  sword auto-combo Final Smash. Maybe have him fly around freely and slash at opponents when he gets near them? Personally for his Final Smash, I would have went with the raining cannonballs from his first ever boss fight in DKC1.

So overall, not a bad moveset. I definitely want him in, and other than the King Krusha move I think you did a pretty good job for his specials.

I said the exact same thing about there being no more DK representation in Wii U/3DS but I'm thinking it's been neglected for long enough that this time it might get a better shake of the stick, especially since Tropical Freeze got renewed interest from its Switch release.

I think giving him moves from the three DKC games is a good idea, it's just for some reason I always felt the third game was somewhat 'separate' from the others. You know what I think it is? From the hero side, neither Donkey or Diddy are playable so it's an extra degree of separation away from Donkey Kong that I'd like, and from the villain side they cast KAOS as the villain in the first half so to me Baron K. Roolenstein didn't get enough spotlight to even feel like the ultimate boss.

As I said in my most recent picture of this guy, it's hard to see him show up without any kind of update - I feel like he needs a new appearance in the DKC series to offer him some kind of 'update' for him to better fit in Smash now. Then again, he could appear exclusively as a reference to the SNES saga so I guess that makes sense too.

I agree a DK game without playable DK or Diddy was a very weird choice. It would have been a way better idea to have DK playable again with Dixie, because Kiddy was just a DK stand-in. Plus Diddy would still be kidnapped so it'd be about rescuing a character both DK and Dixie care about. Oh well. Anyway, KAOS was just an empty machine that was powered by DK and Diddy being trapped inside it. They pulled a Zant basically; the supposed main villain was merely a puppet. And I mean, was it really any less spotlight than he got in DKC1?

I think K. Rool's been a pretty important part of the DK series regardless of whether he was in the newer games or not. I'd love a character who is a love-letter to the SNES. I mean, we have characters who are basically representing the NES (Ice Climbers, Duck Hunt Duo), so why not? Overall, I think importance matters more than relevance, because relevance is temporary and a lot of characters who get in solely on relevance become irrelevant fast (Roy, Dark Pit, Corrin). I really hope it doesn't have to take a new main series appearance to have K. Rool appear in Smash because that'd be really shallow if that's all it takes for him to get in.

I do agree in that he's been an important player for a long time now and the few references he's had in Smash are starting to converge into some greater importance but personally I'm at the place where I think I'd rather see another Kong, which wasn't the case when I first drew this!

"I think importance matters more than relevance" is a great point to make and I think is spot on, but as you note yourself, there are a number of characters who have appeared due to relevance rather than importance so I can't necessarily see them changing their stance at this point.

I'm the opposite there; I'd much rather see K. Rool over another Kong. I mean, if you added a third DK rep and lined them all up, he'd definitely stand out more from the two veterans. But hey, as long as there's a DK newcomer I'd be happy (unless they made them an echo fighter/clone, that'd be lame).

That's very true. I think it's a personal bias that I can't shake, but because of the way the individual DKC games were introduced into my life, the third one always felt like a bit of an outcast to me and I often overlook it.
