That would intimidate me, I gotta say. The only thing would be that it's rather light on the armor in the back... just sayin'.

as long as you eradicate everything in front of you before advancing, there's no need for armor in the rear

yeah, but explosives and bullets have a nasty habit of being in places you don't want them.

Yeah, but very rarely is invincibility considered a good thing when it comes to the entertainment of people.
Besides, this looks more like an exo-skeleton than a full-fledged mech; I think it would be over-doing it if there was more back armor provided, personally. :3

Oh, this is for a GAME. That would make more sense then.
As for armor in the back, the person using the meck COULD be wearing some sort of armor on their body that's heavy in the back to compensate, or just armor in general.

I have no clue if it's for a game or not - but I just think that risks are just a fun element when doing any form of storytelling, no matter the medium.
And yeah, the guy could be wearing armor - but there is no better armor than fear really. An exposed back would probably heighten vigilance as well as push one forward with much more fervor, seeing as how turning tail would most likely result in death - though I'm just conjecturing, of course. :]

Meh, just tactically having an exposed back seems like a bad idea. Yeah, it makes it better story wise, but you still need to address it when you write/animate/whatever.

Tactically, sure. But I still think this was made as a fun exoskeleton thing as opposed to a totally war-practical mech (the pilot's legs are sticking out too ya know XD).
Besides, though it's good to cover plot-holes and discrepencies for sure, you can't explain everything away when telling a story. Not only would the audience be bogged down with details, but they wouldn't have a chance to stretch the imagination. Personally, I'm loving coming up with ideas for why the unit may be like that. :3

So long as it doesn't streach believability TOO much then.
I didn't even notice the pilots legs...
