Description Gotta say these old models do take a long time to paint, credit to the golden daemon winners who won with old models back in the day.
I’m very pleased with how the model came out using the chaos thousand sons paint scheme as described in the book, halfway through painting the model I decided to paint the upper half gold, which makes it look less like an ultramarine robot and more a thousand sons‘.

I was a bit worried about the blue and red clashing but I feel the gold ties the robots and thousand sons together really well.

I’m eager to hear your thoughts on this one.

I was making a Thousand Sons army and I happen to have three of those old Space Crusade dreadnoughts lying around. That is a pretty tempting idea, and I hope you don't mind if I borrow it...

honestly? i know (at least i think so) you wanna keep to the book canon but im kinda curious what it would look like if a flamer or other theentch demon would posess this machine, a twisted demonface, burning weapins, baybe legs that partly disappear into the warp reappearing to reality... im a lil tipsy right now and always full of the strangest ides tho

It's allways great to see some old space crusade models pop up over time. Yes painting was difficult in those days, and a lot easier as well (less detail so more interpretation, also, the accrylic paint we had didn't coat too well, and emale paint (modelpaint tins) was lousy for washing.
Still, resultwise I think the general quality of painting has gone up over the years, and I'd like to add these models to the list of evidence for that.

Very nice job on both of these models. Seeing these makes me want to venture down into the basement and unearth my copy of Space Crusade (if I can find it!) and give you a run for your money. Well done sir.

It's funny, the blue one reminds me of the Maruader from Battletech.

slap me if you told it earlier, but how do you paint your gold?

Proiteus In reply to Bubbawing [2012-06-02 10:24:37 +0000 UTC]

Shining Gold/Scotched Brown base,
layer with shining gold,
shining gold,
Burnished Gold,
highlight edges with Burnished Gold/mithril silver then pure mithril silver,
thin coat of baal red then devian mud.

Long process but the results speak for themselves.

Why does the blue one got guns on the chin?

because that's part of the old Space Crusade dread's main body and can't be removed.

i just wish i could see how they'd look with other weapons like assault or las cannons and even plasma, heavy bolters, and maybe missle-pods.
but still they are really cool, but i wonder where did you get the non-contempter pattern and what is it called.

That blue looks stunning, and I didn't even think Ultramarines when i looked at it, so I'd say it definitely looks Thousand Sons! Haha. Nice lookin' model.
