As part of our mission to provide members with constructive comments at ProjectComment , we present to you the fifth edition of Thematic Commenting, a focused approach to commenting where each edition revolves around a key component of art.

Each edition will feature a different topic (e.g. Color, Perspective, etc.)

If you would like to receive comments about that topic, you have one week to sign up. Only one artwork per person.

After one week, the edition will officially launch with a feature of all submissions where those who have signed up can receive constructive comments.

This Month's Theme is Perspective!

Perspective is the concept of converting a simplistic, flat surface into a believable 3-dimensional space. A piece that utilizes perspective gives the viewer an immersive sense of distance, height, and scale, thus creating a feeling that the viewer can navigate and interact with different subjects in--or the layout of--the picture.

Rules

Artwork must contain use of perspective featuring either an environment or a dynamic pose that utilizes foreshortening.

Visual artwork only

Possible Discussion Points:

  • Does the perspective create a believable space?
  • Is there a smooth transition from the foreground to the background/horizon?
  • Do all subjects successfully converge towards the vantage point(s)? Do all overhead items slope downwards to reveal the bottom? Do all underneath items slope upwards to reveal the top? (Example )
  • Likewise, is scale communicated effectively? Do further objects appear smaller and paler, while closer objects appear larger and more detailed?
  • Do angles or subjects clash with each other?
  • Do you, as the viewer, feel "drawn/sucked into" the artwork?

Sign up now by replying to this journal with a link to your artwork OR submitting to this folder .
Deadline: Friday March 15th.

Here I go, didn't know if I could hold the deadline so I rushed a bit in the end and got it finished early...

Β

I tried to convey the idea of a landscape that reaches way in the distance with something showcasing in the foreground and would really like some feedback on that.

Β Thanks for the chance, you guys are awesome!

That's really nice Hope you didn't compromise too much on the quality or if so hoping you can return back to it! But glad you made it in time for the deadline

Can I submit this? The hand is foreshortened. The full-colored version is in ProjectComment 200+ words but the foreshortening on the arm is hard to see in the colored version.

Preferably, I would like to see examples where the perspective is more...prominent. But I am willing to feature it, especially if there are no alternatives for the subject.

Wait actually something came to mind, and I just uploaded a sketch from half a year ago that has more perspective going on

DTKinetic In reply to GiraffeMeow [2018-06-13 22:43:06 +0000 UTC]

That's much better, thanks

I see! I have no immediate alternative, and I guess the three branches might have some perspective (although I didn't consider that when I was drawing)? No worries if you think there's not enough perspectives

Hello i like to join
Here is my pieceΒ Rip refined
Also, how the discusion will be? like in here talking about theoric stuff or in each ones of the entries?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DTKinetic In reply to NumeroDeSerie [2018-06-10 02:06:34 +0000 UTC]

Okay, looks good

How it works is that we feature your piece, and then generally speaking, viewers will comment on what they think about the perspective and how it may be improved.

If you want, you can ask the audience a specific perspective-related question to guide the discussion, but the above is how it will go

NumeroDeSerie In reply to DTKinetic [2018-06-11 14:59:07 +0000 UTC]

Oh thank you.
I would like to add a topic of discussion, more than an ask it's something that could be aplied to every piece and it's standar geometrical building perspective and complex perspectives whit 3+ vanishing points...anyways, we could talk about a non referencecial perspective and so on and so on.
Anyways, when it will started?Β

DTKinetic In reply to NumeroDeSerie [2018-06-13 01:16:35 +0000 UTC]

So, it sounds like you're looking for more general-based perspective discussion. That's fine, though let me inform you, this event is tailored for commenting on specific works of art (and how the perspective was applied in that artwork). In this case, I'll just leave you on. In the event you get a comment, you can just sway the conversation to the topics you want to discuss with your reply.

It will be launching this Friday

I would like to see if my perspective is any good in this page:Β  .

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

atomicsnarl In reply to BrendanRizzo [2018-06-10 18:12:33 +0000 UTC]

Yes!Β  The houses all point toward the road end vanishing point and the sides are also on point, so, good!Β  Using a ruler to get the perspective lines right is not a sin.Β

The windows in the left house could be a little more angled, but it's your style and cubist influence is just fine.Β  Keep to the theme and let the details sort themselves out to your liking.

Keep in mind the eye line is the horizon line unless the scene or viewer is tilted.

Here is some more info for your consideration: Reply

Thank you. I will definitely keep the stuff you said in mind. I can remember that the horizon is where the vanishing points are, and that is not necessarily where the land meets the sky, but I often forget that it is the same as the eye line.

I also favorited the tutorial that you linked.
