I LOVE the new camera. It has a lot of features like live view and stuff. I also think that 450D is an awesome camera..no doubt about that. So if you buy a 450D, it should solve your purpose too. The cost of 40D body is around $1150 and 450D costs around $600 with kit lens. I bought 40d out of impulse. So if you have money to buy 40D then you should go for it. I would have in fact spent some money on a good lens but my rebel xt was getting too old and upgrading to a 450d would have not made any sense for me.

You can get a 450D with a nice L series Canon lens and your shots will be sharp and contrasty. Trust me on this. Its all about the lens.

Thank you so much for taking the time to help me out here. It's a hard decision for me. I'll be getting a small sum of money in the near future and am already planning what to do with it. So this is the line-up so far: getting teeth made (most important), saving some money for when this computer becomes obsolete to get a new one and camera. I have one more question, if you don't mind. Is the 40D much more complicated to use than the EOS line of cameras? That's what I so love about the one I have now, every idiot '(i.e. me) can take pictures with it and I'm wondering if the 40D will overwhelm me. Sorry for stealing even more of your time.

Canon 40D won't be that complicated to operate. Once you know how to use it, you will love it. I would say...go for it!
