Description Hey look another one of these!
Click for a better view.

Hopefully this helps explain some things when it comes to line art. This is also kind of limited because of the many many different styles people have of doing line art. So artists have super thick lines, and some have lines thinner than mine; some are super clean like mine, some are messier. And again because I can only accurately explain one art program.

Inking Megatron took me a little under an hour.

If you have any questions feel free to ask and let me know what kind of tutorial you'd like to see next!

Cool! Which art program did you use? Photoshop, gimp?

Your welcome, your art is pretty amazing.
SAI? Do you find that it makes a difference? I'm a traditional artist who's looking to start doing more art on computer art programs, despite the fact that I have no previous experience so I don't exactly know where to start.
By the way, I really like your username, definitely a creative choice.

I don't really have much experience with any other art programs but I believe it's a lot easier to get the hang of than Photoshop.

Thank you! I'm really happy with it!

Okay, I'll see about giving it a shot. Is there like a website I need to go to, or a program I need to download?

No problem, you seem like a really cool person.

I'm probably not the best person to ask...
I recommend maybe checking out digital art beginners tutorials on YouTube or Google.

You're welcome, always a pleasure. So...you're a fan of Transformers, am I right? Which Transformers franchise is your favourite?

Yep! I was introduced through Transformers: Prime when the show was in its first season and it's still my favorite now. ^^
More Than Meets the Eye has become a close second though.

Wow! Transformers: Prime is my favourite too! Though I grew up watching the first Transformers film created by Micheal Bay so there's that as well...
"More Than Meets the Eye"? I don't think I've ever heard of that.
So who's your favourite character from Transformers: Prime? (^_^)

More Than Meets the Eye (or MTMTE) is a comic from IDW about what happens after the War ends. There's other comics in the same time-frame too, about different groups of bots, but MTMTE is my favorite.

My favorites from TFP are probably Optimus, Megatron, and Soundwave. I have trouble picking favorite characters. xD

Wow! It sounds interesting, I think I'd like to check it out for myself. Do you know where I might be able to look it up?

My favourites are Optimus (always a personal favourite), Ratchet, Bumblebee, Arcee, Smokescreen, Knock Out, Breakdown, and Dreadwing. I respect Megatron as the character he is, but when you consider the magnitude of his horrible actions and all that pain he put Optimus through it's really hard for me to like Megatron. And we don't really get a lot from Soundwave as an individual character for me to get attached to him. No offense.

I read Lost Light (MTMTE's sequel) at viewcomic.com, so maybe try that? I got all ten paperback volumes so I never read it online.

I like all those guys too!
I also understand why you wouldn't like them. For Megatron, I like him mainly because of his backstory with Optimus and how he somehow developed into the terrible 'Con he is now. He has really good character development and the way he makes decisions can be traced back through his history. (There's a novel mainly based on Optimus and Megatron's pasts that's really great and tied to the TFP universe that I would also recommend: Transformers: Exodus.)

With Soundwave it's more that he's so mysterious and is really the only Decepticon that Megatron has been able to depend on. Maybe if TFP hadn't been cut short they would have expanded on his background too. Andddd for whatever reason I just really like bots with visors. XDD
Well this response became really long.

Okay, thank you so much! I really do appreciate your insight.

Cool!
I really do want to like Megatron, but I feel like no matter how many good reasons my friends give me to like him having a miserable backstory doesn't justify starting a war that killed thousands of innocent civilians and your own planet. But I do agree that no matter how sinister his character development was, I genuinely appreciated the moments in Transformers: Prime that highlighted his character (his rage/his calculating mind, his fight against that insecticon, etc.). Oh my god! They actually go into detail about Optimus and Megatron's shared past?! I'm in! Did you also find it on viewcomic.com?

True, very true. I agree, I would've loved to have learned more about Soundwave. Just like I really like autobots who are sweet, naively troublesome, or have a sexy deep voice?  Lol
It happens to the best of us lol.

It's not a comic, it's actually a novel, so I actually bought that one off of Amazon I think. I think it was $8 or something close to that, and it's definitely worth the read! And it also has a couple sequels: Exiles and Retribution, which are both great too!

666devilprayer In reply to ProphetofPrimes [2017-10-02 12:49:46 +0000 UTC]

Oooh. Okay, I'll see if I can check it out. Any idea what the sequels are about?
Oh, and I went to that website you recommended to look up More Than Meets the Eye but all I got was a bunch of G1 comics. May I ask what the cover looks like? It might help my search if I know what to look for.

ProphetofPrimes In reply to 666devilprayer [2017-10-02 22:24:30 +0000 UTC]

(Vague summaries) So Exodus is about how the war began and everything up to leaving Cybertron.
Exiles is about the Autobots' adventures immediately after leaving, with the Decepticons hot on their trail.
Retribution is about both sides' run-in with an old enemy they both equally hate.
All of this happens before they even reach Earth, and it's implied they get to Earth right after Retribution.

Hm... Oh, I found it! There's a lot of issues so it can be difficult to find #001 view-comic.com/transformers-me… It would be hard to go by cover since there are different versions. My #1 has a different cover. ^^'
That's the first one, and there's at least 50 issues that follow (I can't remember the exact number).

Just outta curiosity, based on your username I assume that you created some Transformers OCs, right? I don't mean to judge you, I'm just curious is all.

666devilprayer In reply to ProphetofPrimes [2017-10-04 03:45:40 +0000 UTC]

Wow! You weren't kidding lol.
They're all so cool! Consider me speechless.
I only made 3 OCs: Starspark/Sparky, Nova, and Orion (after the constellation on earth, not Optimus). I haven't finished their ref sheets but they are my OCs for the Transformers: Prime universe. Starspark (she prefers to be addressed as "Sparky" by friends, family, or when she meets new 'bots) is a female "artificial" (there's a reason for the choice of wording) autobot around the same height as Bumblebee with a copper-orange and black striped paint job. She starts off as training under Ratchet while also training as a scout, where she later becomes an official medic and warrior. Known for her strong moral compass and unbreakable sense of faith Sparky is a selfless, dedicated autobot who would give up everything (and she has done so on multiple occasions) to proctect the ones she loves and provide them with a better future.
Nova and Orion are twins (not like Dreadwing and Skyquake) and the children of Starspark. Nova (the firstborn), is a young female autobot with a golden-orange and bright red accented paint job. Orion is a tall young male autobot with a crimson red and dark blue paint job. Nova is the confident, curious one of the two (often the one who accidentally gets them in trouble), while Orion is the anxious, self-conscious one of the pair (often pressured by those who don't know him well because of the supposed legacy behind his name and his striking resemblance to his father). Both strive to make their family proud while creating an identity for themselves in the process.

Feel free to ask questions. Sorry for the long response.

My lineart typically is single to several stroke, I suppose it's rather obvious xD

ProphetofPrimes In reply to Crimsonic-Crisis [2017-03-31 02:04:32 +0000 UTC]

X) Whether or not I use single or multiple strokes usually depends of the length of the line, so I use both.
But whatever you like to do for your own style go for it!

Gogreendreamer123 [2017-03-31 01:35:20 +0000 UTC]

I don't have a line tool.
I have to suffer if I need a straight line.
Though, that's all I would use it for.

Vindicta-Prime [2017-03-30 21:59:45 +0000 UTC]

Huh I rarely ever use multiple overlapping strokes. I usually get it done in one single swipe but each their own I guess.
I'm guilty of using the ruler/line tool in the past until I got my tablet to draw and I doubt I'll be able to draw with a mouse that well...

Nice tutorial. I haven't learned anything new but I always love to check them out in case there's something interesting I didn't know before.

ProphetofPrimes In reply to Vindicta-Prime [2017-03-30 22:12:28 +0000 UTC]

Usually shorter lines I can do with one stroke but I still use several with long lines. And yeah, I'm guilty of that too.

Thanks! I figured with this one there wouldn't be as much learning to go along with it because most of the griping about it is more about how it can be so time-consuming. But still it doesn't hurt to put this out there for the people who may not know.
