Well, you must also remember that this was a few years ago. (I graduated like three years ago)
I think it had to do with what network the computer was connected to as well as how old the computer was. Some computers were only good for offline stuff.

I have dail-up, which sucks. A lot. And having the true experience of high-speed when I was in the city for a week makes me hate slow internet even more.
