Description
My first attempt at making a custom pony from scratch... but I kinda went to town. Sculpted mostly after the "pink celestia" design, but because of shrinkage due to drying and sanding it's no longer quite as true to scale as I had hoped. She's made entirely out of generic modeling clay, except for the wings, which are made from garbage bags.
Edit: SOLD! Sold and gone.

How did you get her feet to have holes, yet still stand up like that? Impressive!

May I ask what you use to sand? Everything looks wonderfully smooth/

That's mainly because I first sprayed it with lots and lots of primer, then sanded away any imperfections with 800 grain, then a layer of primer again. Then black paint. It's a bit excessive, but it sort of smooths itself out what with all the spraying.

The garbage bag idea is super smart! My first Chrysalis, I stuck lamination peices together and brushed a little green on the edges. They look good but they tend to bend towards eachother. Ive been looking for another way, without using resin, to make her wings. This is a brilant idea, and for your first pony sculpt... it looks really nice!

Wowee! I can't believe that was your 1st pony sculpt! You my dear, get a Llama for that! Just a little something I do for other sculptors that have taken on the daunting task of sculpting Chrysalis & succeeded! You should check mine out! Bravisimo honey!

Awesome! This is one of the best customs I've seen. I can't believe that you made one this good on your first try, it's better than most others in my opinion! Keep up the good work!
Oh, and if you ever start commissioning these, you best believe I will be getting one! Peace!

Beautiful work. The sculpt is very smooth and clean, and the paint work is very tidy. And it was incredibly clever to use plastic bags for her wings so that they were translucent and thin. She is probably the highest quality custom of Chrysalis that I've seen.

Sprayed it with primer and matte black spraypaint, then taped off the green carapace with masking tape and sprayed with an airbrush. Airbrushed mane and tail seperately, then glued them on. For the eyes I cut seperate little templates from paper in the shape of the eyes, irisses and pupils and airbrused them on (in retrospect, that was a bit overcomplicated. It might have been easier to just do them by hand) Did do the eyelashes by hand with a brush, but they're black on a black background so you don't really see them Inside of the mouth and toungue with a small brush, then glued the teeth in with tweezers (the clay I used dries white anyway, so I didn't have to paint them, at least.)
And the wings are just from a transparant green garbage bag cut out in the shape of a wing. You can (and probably SHOULD) use completely clear or transparant blue instead. It more show-accurate. But I thought green looked more eviller. If it's too floppy and won't stay standing upright, just use (A LITTLE!) spray glue to glue two (or more, if necessary) layers of plastic bag together. (that's what I did) Once you have a good semi-rigid wing, scrunch the base of it together between your fingers and hold a cigarette lighter NEAR it (not to close or it'll be Rarity's butterfly wing incident all over) just enough that the crumpled up base melts into a droplet. Superglue droplet to carapace. ??? Profit.
And that's the ghetto way make a custom.

Again, with the clay. For a first try, or for a 10,000th, you did an amazing job! I can't believe it's not butter.
