Description
A poignant close-up of my Pyro cosplay for Supanova Melbourne 2012.NB: I realise the mouthpiece isn't quite right. That's still a work-in-progress to get it game model canon.

It's a black Russian GP5 gasmask with additions bolted on and car window tint on the lenses.

If memory serves, they're made from PVC pipe, and the handles made from acrylic that was heated and bent into the desired shape.

This is the absolute best pyro cosplay I have seen as you made everything look so exact! I am actually new to cosplaying and am working on my own pyro costume, and was wondering if you would mind helping me? I've been working on the mask for a while and have everything done except I am unsure of how to disassemble the front filter in order to be able to breath through it. I apologize if that is a dumb question, but any help would be greatly appreciated.

It comes out pretty easily with some needle-nosed pliers. Try that.

Hi! I know this deviation is a bit older but I have a question about how you made your suit. I know what material you used and that you used two different patterns, but I was wondering if you had any tips on using this material? I'm pretty new to sewing, so should I use fabric that doesn't stretch as much? I'm a bit hesitant to buy nice material and mess it up. Also, did you use a machine or hand sew it? Thank you so much! Your cosplay is amazing and really inspirational

Hi, and thanks for the kind words!
The vinyl I was using was pretty thick (furniture vinyl), and a majority of the time I was using a sewing machine. When I had to hand-stitch, it was really tedious and quite tough, and I did break a needle at least once doing so! The vinyl didn't have a great deal of stretch to it; I had more difficulty with the thickness of it. Sometimes I couldn't get it to go under the machine foot, so I had to remove it so there was just the bare needle (so it was a bit dangerous). I don't have a lot of experience with stretchy materials, but I hear than can make you tear your hair out.
If it's of any consolation, I was something of a sewing newbie when I attempted making this. A friend of mine actually helped me combine the patterns, and I did a test run using calico before trying it with the vinyl, so you might want to do that if you're not confident. It takes longer, but less chance of mistakes, and you can customise the pattern a little further. I re-made a medic coat about 5 times before I used the actual material!

It's a black Russian GP-5 mask with a (fake) side filter bolted on, the lenses tinted, and the front filter disassembled and a new piece fitted over the top.

The gasmask is a Russian GP-5 (in black, obviously) with a side filter added, the front filter removed and a piece fitted on top. The front piece isnβt as accurate as Iβd like it to be, but itβs tough finding something that tapers slightly. At the moment itβs the bottom of a drink bottle. The lenses are tinted with car window tint.
You can find these kinds of gasmasks on eBay, which is where I got mine.

I hope I'm not bothering you with more questions but I was wondering what materials you used to make your flamethrower? :3 I've seen in tutorials that people use PVC for practically the whole prop but it looks like you used a thinner material, like for the Airblast Barrel and the head of the flamethrower.
Thank you for your help!

The airblast barrel is a water jug combined with a Malteser bucket!

hey, I know you're probably sick of these "how did you?" questions so sorry if this had already been answered elsewhere but what did you use for the canister on the side and how did you get it connected to the mask without ruining it? the costume looks amazing BTW, thanks in advance

It was actually a screw-top plastic container I had in my bathroom cupboard! A lucky find. It's actually bolted through the rubber of the mask, so it does shift about a bit but it seemed the best and most secure way to attach it.

It was originally sourced from here: [link]
You could possibly find it at art stores, hobby stores, possibly building supply stores.

thanks you so much, the internet hates me and it wouldn't bring up a page I could buy any at. also one more question (I swear I think this is my last one lol) I have PVC chemical gloves, and it seems nothing I paint will dry fully on in. I tried the rubber spray for my gas mask, stayed sticky, tried spray paint that the lady at home depot said would work with PVC, stayed sticky. should I even try to add Primer and then try?

I used Plastidip which is expensive and a little hard to wrangle, but it's the best option, I believe. I couldn't source a supplier that had the yellow Plastidip in a spray can, so had to buy a tin of it. I dipped the glove fingers into the paint and hung them to dry. The yellow cuffs are actually yellow electrical tape as Plastidip is very difficult to paint on smoothly, and the cuff was too large for me to fit into the paint can.

yeah my gloves are initially green and I tried black Platidip for it and it just wouldn't dry for some reason, how long did yours take to dry? and are yours PVC (sorry I thought it would be the last question lol)

They're essentially these:

So rubber. I left the Plastidip to dry overnight and it was fine.

You mean for the suit? Vinyl. The props are all made of foam, PVC, acrylic sheeting and medium density fibre-board. The only metal is bolts and screws and the copper ignition pipe.

Thanks! It's just a Russian GP-5 gasmask with some alterations made to it. Lenses were tinted with car window tint, the side piece was made with an old screw-top plastic pot and the front piece was the bottom off a large plastic drink bottle.
