This picture is amazing. May I ask if you used any filter for this?

NO filter was used. This is a blend of 2 exposures.

The blue sky meshing together with the sun's radiant rays.. The roaring waves, seemingly golden sand.. Stout rocks across the land..

Great. And I mean that to it's full capacity; great.

The compressed dynamic range feels a bit forced to me, the picture looks to have flat tonality, while the scene would suggest stronger contrast. Also, the halos around the blended layers are clearly visible.
Well, maybe I'm spoiled because I know what to look for...

Made a few minor adjustments. Any better?

Well, the halos are pretty much healed now, but the center seems blown to me in this version.
Also, I feel that the waves could be a tad lighter overall - but I'm not sure, I've never seen strong ocean waves in heavily backlit situations with my own eyes...

Appreciate the crit. Could you maybe be a bit more specific though? The darks are already very dark, so are you suggesting that the lights are too dark? For example I can now see that the lights are too dark in die middle left part of the sky. Also where can you see halo's?

(the level numbers are referring to the first version)

Take a look at the histogram: you have no blacks in the photo (isn't your monitor too dark?). Try levels with setting like 7 - 0,98 - 248. Hit ctrl-A (select), ctrl-C (copy to clipboard), then get back to the step before the levels. Hit ctrl-V, do a layer blending mask and erase the blown highlights around the sun from the levelled layer, keeping that part from the original.

As for the halos, I've painted the problematic parts with green. The waves behind the foreground rock are much brighter than those in the distance.

As opposite to the levels method above, I've included an example on a selective curve to increase the contrast locally.
