Friends, I first decided to participate in the contest!
I was inspired and as if in one breath I drew this picture. I hope you will enjoy!
Diseases of the mind are very scary for me. If everyone is against you, then you can not prove that you are healthy. This is my nightmare. You can be put in a hospital and you will be treated. People will not believe you. I think not one book is written on this topic.

Loved the main idea. Not trying to speak but more like trying to silence another (or others). Especially the way you drew her hair like a gateway, like she is trying to get into the real world but the hands are stopping her. The visuals are amazing as always but the details are what impressed me mostly. Oh, and the crimson strings coming out of some kind of a demon or the beast to control the hands, lovely...

What an excellent contest submission. Honestly, I did not know this was for the contest until I checked the piece description, yet my first thought had been "this would be an excellent piece for the Shattered Self contest." Lo and behold, it *is* a submission!
Very, very well done. Your use of depth and the color palette you've chosen are spot on for the tangled, claustrophobic feeling of a self that is both fractured, and yet confined within a vessel far too small for the chorus of needs. I especially *love* the varying evocations displayed by each pair of hands by their gestures and posture rather than just their physical differences. The way the gray hand claws into the primary subject's skin is particularly telling, especially when contrasted with the more caressing disposition of the hand beneath.
I think, however, that what makes it particularly striking to me is the primary subject's calm demeanor. Had she been expressing fear, panic, horror, anxiety, or so on, I think this piece would lose strength. She's simply trying to cover herself, there is no attempt to free herself from the hands or tangle of red string. The controlled neutrality of her expression--or perhaps even some frustration or indignation--and pose speaks to the truth of these kinds of head-spaces: this is not something sudden or unfamiliar. Perhaps there had been a time when this was all new and scary, but when fear or confusion become normalized they turn into *exactly* what you have captured here. A sort of "I'm dealing with this the best I can" feeling, or maybe an omnipresent frustration directed towards the fact that one *has* to deal with this on a daily basis. "All these shards of broken mirror still reflect me." This is a very possible summation of someone living with a shattered self.
So, once again I must reiterate how fantastic this piece is. Keep up the fantastic work!
