MKyuun In reply to PS-D [2019-11-09 07:03:12 +0000 UTC]
I rarely check my Deviant Art account, so I was pleasantly surprised to find your reply. I'm again impressed by your design. The bare metal fuselage is reminiscent of WWII aircraft, giving it a retro-near-futuristic feel. I'm a huge fan of the tilt-rotor, and tilt-turbine by extension, and those engines are beautiful. Concerning your idea for combined chemical ignition, the insect you're referring to is the Bombardier Beetle, a unique and remarkable insect oddity that would seem a natural impossibility if not for the fact that it exists. Chemical ignition of the sort you mention is generally used in rocket engines. However, the concept is sound, and with the push to use more environmental friendly substances, such as algae, for non-fossil fuel sources, I wouldn't be surprised to see something of that nature come about, even if only as a catalyst.
I'm sorry to hear that life has you down at the moment, but I hope you come out of your strife stronger and with a new-found, and much earned peace.
As for animating your ship, if ever the opportunity presents itself and you succeed in doing so, send a message my way, as I'd love to see it.
Finally, the name, MKyuun is a phonetic username I created back in '98 for how my surname, McQuown, would be pronounced in a proper Scottish brogue.
Again, thanks for the kind reply. Take care, Patrick.

I like this design quite a bit! However, if its going to be expressly a spacecraft then the intakes on the thrusters are not realistic, yet if it's an in-atmosphere vehicle they look very good. The front half of the vehicle looks very good, but it's hard to tell what exactly is going on with the tail.
Another suggestion is to connect the wings above the fuselage, but that's more of a ascetic choice than any kind of design problem. Overall, this looks great, keep up the good work!

Absolutely beautiful work there PS-D. I was wondering if it would be alright for a friend of mine to model a ship based off this design? It is for a space based mmo titled Infinity.

Awesome ship, man. Wow! You inspired me to build this (as close as I can) with legos. The pivoting engines might give me troubles but hopefully it turns out cool. I'll have to take a photo to share if it turns out half as brilliantly as your design.

I'd make the gray area around the engine intake less flat shaded... like maybe sort of off black and granite... The way it looks now it kind of reminds me of the interior of a 2007 suv? just the texture i mean, the ship is BAD ASS... where can i see this film?

Ohh, I like how the flight deck is sunk a bit lower than the rest of the fuselage. Simmilar to how a large cat might stalk prey, it looks aggressive. The panels look good, and a lot of aircraft have manny panels like that to access certain parts. Only thing is that they would not be quite so beveled around the edges, the panel would be flush with the skin of the aircraft, but the edges would still show up just fine because of the sealant they use to fill the gap between the panel and the skin. Also, the panels with only 4 fasteners in each corner don't work. I think they attract too much attention and need to be a bit more subdued. Not to mention that the panel might tear off in flight with only 4 fasteners. usually you will see a crapload of small screws spaced about an inch or so apart all the way around the edge of the panel. I do like the gloss finish of the skin, but the mirrored finnish makes it difficult to understand the shape. Perhaps a powdered/polished titanium look, verry glossy and shiny but not so reflective. I know that textures aint easy though. The engines are a bit too big for me. the shape is great, but they hide a lot of the spacecraft. They don't seem to make much sense unless this is a serious heavy lifter. I wouldn't take away too much though, maybe shrink them by 20-25%. The hugeness does work for it even though it may be a bit overcooked. I just think the rest of the craft looks too good to be obsured by the huge ass engines. Oh, and the right wingtip light should be green (from the ship's perspective). I'm not trying to tear your work to peices, I like it verry much. Good job and good luck with your project!

Hahaha. I have lots of projects like that.
D-Mounty has good points regarding fasteners on panels, but in the future, couldn't they have a different way of closing and sealing access panels? You simply tell the central computer: "Open hatch - fusion converter - starboard." and it pops open for work.
I like the massive engines, it made me think of a supercar to do 200km/h on the autobahn.

Thank you. Someone told me that the metal panels wouldn't look very realistic because surfaces should be more plane for better aerodynamic. But i like the look more than the look of e.g. the spaceship of Princess Amidala in Star Wars.

Since I get the feeling that this is a military vehicle, I will make suggestions as such. I do not think that it is too shiney; if it a atmospheric and space craft the heat and gasses from escape and reentry velocities would scour the surface and polish it very clean. Also, miltary aircraft maintenence crews are anal about their aircraft (and put their pride into them also), so they would definately keep it this clean. I think the problem with the shiny comes from a lack of heat shielding (because of having to deal w/atmospheric encounters) and you should consider putting that on somewhere. I like the ideas of the caution and warning labels, but those could use a little tweaking; if you live anywhere near an aircraft carrier museum, you should definately consider taking a trip out and looking at it close up. I think it would help with a lot of questions. I like what you've done with the cockpit by keeping the glass minimal and structural steel (or other material) prevalent; I think it keeps it more real like that. You might want to reconsider all the compartments you've put on the outside on the craft and also putting some sort of fueling jack more easily accessable (visible). Other than those small points, I really like your vehicle and it looks like it would be a blast to fly. (It also kind of reminds me of a cross between a Orion starfighter and Hercules heavy fighter from Descent Freespace, but only very little).
Great job and thanks for reading my incredibly long comment.

PS-D In reply to shadeofsound [2007-06-18 21:13:46 +0000 UTC]
Thank you a lot shadeofsound.
A comment like this means a lot to me.
First of all it's not meant as an military vehicle but it's used as one in the plot. I think it's because of the sign (a dragon) and that the design doesn't look like the advertisement on a Plane (Logo of an Airline) I guess I'll put a companys logo on it, what do you think about that.
The clean look is meant like the 'Lotus Effect'.
The shielding thing is interesting. I think Materials of the future should stand a lot of atmospheric influence e.g they do a rollover while they enter athmosphere but maybe something inbetween is more interesting. I thought about putting the fuel jack into a place where many military aircrafts have them (you can see the opening but it should be opened into other direction) I think placing it somewhere at the top or at the front is better as the speed for fueling operations will be done at much higher in future or energy systems will improve.
Thank you a lot for your suggestions. These helped me to get new Ideas. I'll concentrate on the fragile parts first.
Regards, PS-D
By the way reading it is easier than giving an anwer.

Yes, the company logo would be more clear and concise to get your point across. if it's a personal plane used in a corporate manner, you might want to paint the nose to give it a more personal touch... or not, depending on your character's personality quirks.
Forgive me for only noticing this now, but I've been scrutinizing your bird there and i have to say that you have some incredibly beautiful lines around your cockpit area... I also just noticed what seems to me to be hot carbon-scoring around a nozzle at the nose... (just remember that traditional powder-propellant bullets don't work in space... yada yada you've probably heard that before...)
Your intakes look untextured, so I'm sorry if these particular suggestions seem redundant. You definitely want your intakes VERY shiny, more so than the rest of the plane, unless you want to try to explain away the fact of particulate matter being jammed into your expensive and most likely delicate engine components (lol). The output areas should be heat-tempered and resistant material - so darker than the rest of the plane...
I'm also assuming that the circular looking object protruding from the top of your cockpit is the hatch, nice touch. Oh wait that could be your fuel port... dang now I've confused myself...lol.
Another touch on warning labels and such is that the fueling port always gets a big red one with bold white caps saying 'fueling' or something of the nature. Also, the fueling port should be close to your tank to prevent the fuel line from traveling near and through vital components and components which could ignite the fuel in passing. And with the vents, compartments and warning labels (which right now your labels look more like placeholders, which I'm assuming you're using them as such) start out with a lot, like you have, then reduce as you clip the unnecessary from your ship. I think it's easier *wouldn't know, I'm a writer, not an artist* to remove then trying to insert something needed into a clustered area.
well, those are some more points I thought of, and I can't wait to see it when you finish up the rest of the bird the same way as you've done the nose area. Schematics anytime soon? :-D

Take a look at development of new ideas on private planes or better vehicles and at your own toughts about those.
Forget what you said about crutinizing this scrap. It's just a scrap.
Sorry that i didn't know about that powder-propellants won't work in space. The openings have nothing to do with any military purposes.
It might be that you got a totally diffrent point of view at the plot of the story till now.
The Warning lables are for those who will have to fuel or repair them manually.
Anyway your answers helped me even if they were'nt meant too serious.
Thank you.

Sorry that my answer did sound a bit harsh. It's more like I'd love to show more of what I thought about it and I wasn't able to work on it, to show it yet.
What I mean about telling you to "forget about scrutinizing this scrap" was to forget about that you could "displease" me with your suggestions. (my english is quite poor)
And I should have placed a smiley after the (high technology) powder propellant thing.
A defenitly wrong sentence was "Anyway your answers helped me even if they were'nt meant too serious.". I meant Thank you for your Ideas from a diffrent point of view, but keep on with the humorous parts " like writing that you got lost in the details. (even without a lol)
I'm looking forward to hear more of your thoughts.
