Description
Before it was a ‘hashtag’ on digital devices...before it was the ‘pound sign’ on the phone...
it existed on typewriters — it was called the ‘octothorpe’.
...and this is why older generations were cooler than ours.
This poster, made for screen printing, is both an experiment and a gift: experiment with designing images that can still look cool when printed off-register; a gift for local Twin Cities art gallery, The Abstracted. (www.facebook.com/TheAbstracted…

This is way cool. Do you have this available on a vinyl sticker? Hoping for about 3" across.

If not, I'd like to order a few using Sticker Mule if you are ok with that.

If it works as an icon at a small size -- feel free to use it.
And thank you for asking

Daily Deviation... wheeeeeeeeeee -- nice -- been a while since I got one of those
This is a good opportunity, then, to plug the screen printing of this piece that I just finished.
The results are on Instagram (name: PseudoManitou).
Have a look and let me know if $30 is too much to pay for a three-color 18x24-inch poster of this critter-mark!

Neat riff on an old favourite - I'm glad I saw it on DAily Deviations, as it led me to the rest of your gallery... Wowow! Fantastic art and commentary!

It goes by many names, and yes it is also used in sheet music ( I forgot what for now tho )
It is an old symbol, so every language got its own name for it, or more than one

it's used to make a note sound lower by half a note. (I hope I could explain it so that it would make sense, if not please seek the explanation somewhere else...)

In music, the "Octothorpe" (lol) is also called a "Sharp" sign. It is used to denote pitch a "half-step" higher on staff paper; what you were thinking of was a "Flat" sign, which is used to indicate the pitch on paper a "half-step" lower, marked by a lower-case "b".
Source: Just go read any basic music theory lesson, or better yet, go to www.musictheory.net/ to see (if you're interested!) how music theory works.

Whoops, I really accidentally switched them! Thank you for the correction, giving out wrong information was really not what I wanted to do here... ^v^'
I should get back to playing an instrument, I mean, look at how rusty I got with music theory... OTL

Thank you for teaching me something I had not known. "Octothorpe" sounds wonderful; and the graphic design is a delight to the eyes. Congratulations on the prompt DD.

What a hoot; I l♥ve visual puns, and this one is so perfectly executed. "...and this is why older generations were cooler than ours." (* snerk! *) Hell, kid, I'm not that much older... oh, wait, I guess I am...
What next, an amper... sand? Through an hourglass?

From now on I will refer to it as an octothorpe. Thank you for sharing that with me.
