Bleh, I don't like this at all... but I suppose it's some kind of 'finished piece' for a change?Two main things I learned from this are that I need to do a LOT more colouring practice, because I'm clueless when it comes to lighting, planes and forms, textures, or blending nicely, or things like that... and also that I really lack patience and need to work on that! I got so tired by this and left a lot of it less-than-finished because I just wanted to get it out of the way and move onto something else.
Anyway, I know more about how art 'should' be done than I'm actually capable of doing, so with this, I can see all kinds of errors but don't yet have the skill to do any better. Annoying, that. Oh well; practice is everything in the end, so I suppose time is the only cure to my INCOMPETENCE!!1
But yes! I have been drawing people and wanting to get into drawing dragons, so I tried combining the two. It was interesting! There's no story behind it or anything though. My, how boring.
I feel like I can draw people better than dragons!

to me this piece is really well made if you ask me. but about the color part I know your pain, this is why most of my art are only linear.

I really like this! Especially her hair and the fact that her coronet (is that the right word?) matches the gem thing on the dragon. The pink on the dragon's head make it look like some kind of flower dragon, which seems appropriate for the setting. I'm kind of jealous of how simple yet professional the background is, too. Overall, it looks very nice!
Though I'd be interested to see what kind of story you *would* come up with to go with this!

I very much intended it to be some kind of flower dragon, so I'm glad that's something you picked up on!
I imagine that the gems on their respective foreheads would, uh... psychically link them, and they'd have a symbiotic relationship and, uh... that's probably as much story as I can come up with! o_O

It's really good! I especially like how the far away background is blurred like in movies

They look good together. Don't worry about seeing all the errors. All artists (or most of them) can see all the little mistakes that they make but don't really fix. I'm the same as you with the whole "not being able to do what you know should be done" thing. Keep up the practice and you'll definitely improve!
