Oh my gosh thankyou! I havn't done it in so long!
Hmmm start by using a reference or sketch, put graphite all over the back and then trace it onto your scratchboard so you have a basic of what you are doing.
From when I remember doing this I mostly used this tool thecozyred.files.wordpress.comβ¦
It's like a very hard brush, and I worked it very gently in circular motions over and over, like layering really slowly so that it took away the black rather softly.Β

A scratchboard and one of these things thecozyred.files.wordpress.com⦠it's like this really hard brush you slowly scratch the black away with.

Wow! The level of detail here is off the charts. You are quite outstanding with a scratchboard. If you did not get an A+ for this, I would be greatly amazed. When I saw this, I thought it was a picture at first!

Thankyou! I'm quite a perfectionist haha, i'm sure I inhaled so much of the stuff I was bending over so close to it.

This is beautiful!! It's really amazing how smooth of a texture you were able to achieve.

this is very well done. i like the delicacy and smoothness of it, which i know is not easy to achieve with scratch board.

This is so awesome. How do you plan out your drawing on it. I have scratchboard materials...but I don't know how to use them...

A good way to have a sketch to a scratchboard thats easy to use is first
-Draw what you want on paper
- Put a light pastel coating on the back paper
- Tape the paper sketch to the scratchboard
- Lightly trace your drawing
The pastel will transfer to the scratchboard without scratching it, and in turn it's very easy to erase.
Afterwards you can use a dark graphite pencil or some ink to darken in some mistakes.

This is really impressive! (^_^)// Did you use a photograph as reference, or did you make it up as you went along?

Wow, this "Scratchboard" sounds like good practice on lighting, opposed to shadowing.

That is really amazing work! You should be pretty proud of this, I love how well you handle the shadows and light. Scratchboard seems like the perfect medium, great use of the negative space. Did you get an A+, cuz you deserve it.
